When a just God "kicks butt"

God is many faceted. One thing He is is just; another is merciful; we first see this in the Garden of Eden where, because of their sin, Adam and Eve are cursed and kicked out of the garden (justice) but promised a saviour (mercy).

A couple of other attributes of God are his lovingness and protectiveness; He loved Israel and although He often punished her as a means of discipline He said this about her.

For I am the Lord your God,
    The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I have given Egypt as your ransom,
Cush and Seba in your place.
Since you are precious in My sight,
Since you are honored and I love you,
I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life.
    Do not fear, for I am with you;
I will bring your offspring from the east,
And gather you from the west. (Is 43:3-5).
Yes, just as God gave Jesus in our ransom, just as Jesus died in our place, so God gave Egypt and Cush and Seba in Israel's place, other people died rather than Israelites.

I started to post this after reading 2Kings 19: firstly we have in God's own words "the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me. Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he (Rabshakeh) will hear a rumor and return to his own land. And I will make him fall by the sword in his own land" and the second God says because of "Sennacherib king of Assyria ... 'For I will defend this city to save it for My own sake and for My servant David's sake.' Then it happened that night that the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men rose early in the morning, behold, all of them were dead".

It's good to know that that's the type of protection God offers to us, his Church, even if we don't see it.

Some numbers; they may offend those who have only heard of the "lovey dovey" side of God. This is the "Adult Content".

Now people who don't like the idea of God punishing evil get upset when God does it so some atheist has gone through the Bible and listed all the references to God killing people and added up the numbers (if only all Christians were that keen at their studies). They've unfortunately added the Apocrypha but we're looking at 2.5M on the numbers given in the Bible with their estimates where numbers aren't given taking the value up to 25M. There are maybe 130 occasions in the Bible where God kills people starting with the flood.

Even that low figure of 2.5M seems a lot but God was keeping alive the thread of people leading to Jesus, people of Israel whom He loved, and at the same time punishing evil people which He can justly do.

Here's the link for those figures http://dwindlinginunbelief.blogspot....-in-bible.html

    And from http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendl...ng-every-kill/

    How many did God kill?
Here's the total, if you use only numbers that are provided in the Bible: 2,821,364.

Who has killed more, Satan or God?
How many did Satan kill in the Bible?

I can only find ten, and even these he shares with God, since God allowed him to do it as a part of a bet. I'm talking about the seven sons and three daughters of Job.

Not that any of this should cause you problems.

As noted...all because if man's choice to sin and all executed 'in love' for His children..for the ultimate redemption of mankind.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Athiest like to believe God should be deemed evil because of the execution of the rebellious because they don't start at this point..God is love...one must first believe He is God and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him before one can grasp that all His actions were motivated BY love and not the result of the absence of love.

The problem with some Christians is not in accepting God is love, but is in separating the carnal interpretation of love with the revealed God kind of love. When CHRISTIANS get this concept twisted they have begun to reinvent a 'god' that is not real by convincing themselves He is different from His true nature and convincing themselves that His true nature as revealed through scripture is evil..essentially attributing human characteristics in place of God's rather than desiring and trusting God to make HIS attributes their own..unless the latter takes place they can never truly KNOW HIM..without His being allowed to reveal HIMSELF to us we cannot KNOW GOD kind of love experientially.

It's not new for man to try to make God in their own image rather than allow HIM to transform them into HIS image...they judge Him, reject Him and then sometimes try to just reinvent Him.

    II Corinthians 3:9-18 (Amp.)
    (9) For if the service that condemns [the ministration of doom] had glory, how infinitely more abounding in splendor and glory must be the service that makes righteous [the ministry that produces and fosters righteous living and right standing with God]!
    (10) Indeed, in view of this fact, what once had splendor [the glory of the Law in the face of Moses] has come to have no splendor at all, because of the overwhelming glory that exceeds and excels it [the glory of the Gospel in the face of Jesus Christ].
    (11) For if that which was but passing and fading away came with splendor, how much more must that which remains and is permanent abide in glory and splendor!
    (12) Since we have such [glorious] hope (such joyful and confident expectation), we speak very freely and openly and fearlessly.
    (13) Nor [do we act] like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze upon the finish of the vanishing [splendor which had been upon it].
    (14) In fact, their minds were grown hard and calloused [they had become dull and had lost the power of understanding]; for until this present day, when the Old Testament (the old covenant) is being read, that same veil still lies [on their hearts], not being lifted [to reveal] that in Christ it is made void and done away.
    (15) Yes, down to this [very] day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their minds and hearts.
    (16) But whenever a person turns [in repentance] to the Lord, the veil is stripped off and taken away.
    (17) Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage, freedom). [Isa. 61:1, 2.]
    (18) And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

Sorry GodismyJudge, I'll blame it on Australia Day coming up next week, but what are you trying to say here?
