Thread: Detroit Lions

  1. #181
The Lions have done well in the pre-draft free agent market picking up strength at every weakness. Last season they missed the superbowl by going flat in the latter half of the championship game and with a defense that ranked 27th in pass defense. Not anymore. Even before the draft the Lions were set for a strong run. Brad Holmes stepped up and just conquered the draft yet again. And did he stop there? No. Holmes has gone on a tear signing the undrafted free agents. It's going to be a great season

When guys like receiver elite St Brown says he is waiting for Goff to get what he deserves...if the Lions cheaped on the deal there would have been bad blood in the lockerroom. That 212mil just killed any distractions. Goff is the man and he proved it with stats and results.

Lions' Jared Goff cites 'security,' no-trade clause as factors in deal - ESPN

The deal negotiated by Goff's agent, Ryan Tollner of Excel Sports Management, also includes a $73 million signing bonus -- the largest in NFL history.

Most NFL players do not like the thought of moving, re-acclimating, fresh playbook etc. Goff loves it here. He has revived the city.

Apparently the NFL loves Detroit (as does much of the NFL fanbase) as evidenced by the scheduling of 9 night games. That's big stuff.

Not nine but 4. I assume it's due to Kirk Cousins.

Well, with all due respect for the Lions organization, the coaching staff, their free agent acquisitions, the Lions 2024 draft, and signing Goff to a four-year extension, the club looks ready to excel above the 2023 season. No doubt they are a playoff contender and may possibly win a trip to the Superbowl if the players acquired in the off-season (free agents & draft picks) live up to all the Lion's hype to winning an NFL championship.

Seahawks: I said last year after Seattle failed to make the playoffs; "They need to get rid of Pete Carroll and bring in a new coaching staff." Well, they did.
Mike Macdonald comes from the Raven's as the new head coach. Ryan Grubb comes from the Huskies as the new offensive coordinator. Adding another 15 (at last count) new coaches on the staff should prove monumental. The seahawks had a positive free agency as well as a 2024 draft. Bringing back Geno Smith as the starter, and acquiring Sam Howell as back-up quarterback is encouraging.

Seahawks vs Lions: Seattle has beaten Detroit in the motor city the last two of seasons. 10-2-22 S 48 L 45, 9-17-23 S 37 L 31.

No one in the NFL knows what the new Seahawks defense and offensive schemes will look like in the 2024 season yet. Why? There was a complete coaching shakeup in the organization.
No one has played the "new" Seahawks if you will, as of yet.

Can the Detroit Lions bounce back and beat the Seattle Seahawks on their home turf at Ford field? Or will Seattle make it 3 years in a row at defeating the Lions at home?

I guess we'll see on Monday Night Football on week 4, September 30th. I think Seattle will prevail and give the Lions their 3rd straight loss in a row at Detroit against us in 2024. But I will give the Lions the benefit of the doubt. This will be a close game as the other two were. This Monday night match up will be one of the better headliners in 2024. It will be a shootout up until the middle of the 4th quarter. But having been a Seattle Seahawk fan since their inception in 1976, I've got to gave them the edge in this upcoming Monday night game. It's going to be a Doozie.

Is Seattle a sleeper to watch in 2024?

My only regret is Petie is gone and we wont see him going ballistic on the sidelines. The Lions had a glaring weakness with one of the worst at stopping the pass and narrowly missed the superbowl. Pretty confident that has been addressed. Our sophomore players that were superstar rookies are expected to improve. Our new guys on defense, that is the big expectation.
