Good read. I have also been reviewing the concept of sovereignty. What has happened is that the Calvinistic interpretation of sovereignty="meticulous determinism" has become a highjacked "goto" version that many assume.
Here Leighton Flowers addresses how the term sovereignty needs to taken back to its original denotative meaning.

I like Gordon and have many of his books. This is interesting, but doesn't this sound like an endorsement of the common interpretation of Romans 8:28, which I know you disagree with.
God is a sovereign. The truth of His sovereignty is one of the most gracious of all the truths in this blessed old Book of God. It means that the great gracious purpose and plan of God will finally be victorious. It means that in our personal lives He, with great patience and skill and power, works through the tangled network of circumstances and difficulties to answer our prayers, and to bring out the best results for us.
I have always taken the sovereignty of God to mean that He is the ultimate authority, not that He predetermines everything that happens.

Bookie, did you read ALL OF IT? Gordon's teaching is far from the common, or rather, "Calvinistic" interpretation of Romans 8:28. He also writes,
He works with and through the intricate meshes of men’s wills and contrary purposes to bring out good now—not good out of bad, that is impossible; but good in spite of the bad.
Furthermore, Gordon's whole premise is that none of THAT happens apart from man's COOPERATION and working along with God. Gordon specifically states that God will allow his pruprose to fail before He works apart from man's cooperation.

EXACTAMUNDO!!!
Before looking into Calvinism in the early 2000s, I very seldom heard the word "sovereign" used (especially since I had been in "faith circles" most of my walk with Christ). However, on the rare occasions the word was used I always understood it exactly the way you put it. I was shocked to learn later how Calvinists define the word.
