Most people wouldn't notice if they suddenly had 10 Mbps. It depends on what you use it for but 10 was a good speed say five years ago and most people's internet use hasn't changed much.

I have the minimum 30 Mbps and cable-TV included in the basic rent and an old smartphone with a $10/month subscription with 1 gb. That works abundantly for me.

I still have a landline, because in my experience the voice quality is better as compared with cellular.
When I'm speaking with people who are hard of hearing, that extra bit of quality is important.

I use our landline exclusively. I have a cell phone that I use maybe once a month. I hate it.

Yeah, that's how they market landlines these days. I remember landlines producing better sound but the speakers on cell phones may have improved since back then.

I have found the same thing. Dd uses i phones and the audio quality is awful.

Our landline is AT&T. We can't get any of their premium services in our neighbourhood. We got the cell phones primarily for emergency use so we usually don't give out the numbers. We drive 10 miles of mostly country roads to get to dd's house so cells are a necessity. We will use the cells for less than emergency if we need to talk to dd or her family when we are out. I don't want doctors offices and such calling on the cell. Shoot, we have an answering machine but no caller id.

With taxes and the other fees they threw on I was paying $55 a month and that did NOT include any long distance, and like you the vast majority of my calls were telemarketers.

When I called to cancel they went over my bill to see if they could cut the price down but except for nixing caller ID (which I would not be without) the best they could offer was a courtesy $5 off a month...so it was time to cut the cord.

Five bucks is not much of a concession.
