When I saw "2a) of a light and loose garment worn at night over a naked body" I thought that that interpretation may have been derived from Mark 14:51-52 itself. I've seen entries that looked like that before. But Thayers refers to two Old Testament verses where the 200 BC Greek Septuagint translation uses the same term and where it's used about linen garments :

Judges 14:12 Then Samson said to them, “Let me pose a riddle to you. If you can correctly solve and explain it to me within the seven days of the feast, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.

Proverbs 31:24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.

Here we have both the Hebrew and the Koine Greek.

To sum this up, there is no reason to believe that the young man was a resurrected corpse in burial wrappings like Lazarus. The theory is emotionally pleasing in that it produces a new and exciting miracle in the Bible but it doesn't hold water.

It's like seeing people who are zapped by God's power they are 'lost' in the encounter and the last thing on their mind is running away.

When there's silence it ends up becoming what someone wants to believe happened
A young man resurrected seconds to minutes ago wouldn't have thought about trying to escape other young men (who weren't Roman soldiers but more likely servants) who were trying to capture one of Jesus' disciples probably to identify him since only Jesus was arrested. He would have talked to them instead of letting go of his burial wrapping so that he could flee buck naked through the streets of Jerusalem. And to where would he flee ?

Renner has opened up a new understanding of scripture. He is fantastic scholar and I highly recommend his books. I now understand who that boy was. Renner's interpretation easily supersede the minimal objections written here.

I think the account in Matt 27:50-53 of the righteous resurrection of many, following Jesus being raised from the dead a much better and intriguing story.

The whole point being that it followed Jesus' resurrection and became a sign of it.

Yes, that same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead quickens our mortal bodies and daily. I like what Paul also said about wanting to know Christ in the POWER of His resurrection. Dunamis, baby. Real POWER.
