The great falling away is in progress. How could any true follower of Jesus Christ resist having our very Christian Vice President speaking at their event?

Note Fuego's latest thread by Michael Browne. You can no longer send your kids to Christian schools and expect them to be safe from the garbage being spouted by the demonic liberal lie anymore. That used to be the purpose for parents paying high tuition costs for these schools.

THOUSANDS OF CHRISTIANS URGE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL TO DISINVITE MIKE PENCE

Several thousand alumni, faculty members and supporters of an Indiana private Christian university are urging the school to rescind its speaking invitation to Vice President Mike Pence, saying the Trump administration’s policies aren’t consistent with Christian ethics.

Taylor University of Upland, Ind., announced Thursday that Pence would speak at its May 18 commencement. The school’s president, Paul Lowell Haines, said in a statement Pence has “been a good friend to the University over many years” and is a “Christian brother whose life and values have exemplified what we strive to instill in our graduates.”

Taylor University is a non-denominational private Christian school founded in 1846.

More than 3,300 alumni and supporters of the university have signed a Change.org petition protesting the invitation.

“Inviting Vice President Pence to Taylor University and giving him a coveted platform for his political views makes our alumni, faculty, staff and current students complicit in the Trump-Pence Administration's policies, which we believe are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear,” the petition reads.

An unidentified tenured professor at Taylor told Salon the invitation “blindsided” people.

“I immediately became angry and cynical,” the professor said, “thinking that our dear seniors were being sold out, that the administration was hedging its bets that they could turn graduation into a political statement and, furthermore, a revenue stream – that this move would please people with deep pockets with whom the administration would like to partner – and that that outcome was more desirable to them than whatever the faculty and student body wanted.”

Pence has strong Indiana roots. He is a graduate of the state’s Hanover University and the Indiana University School of Law. He also is a former congressman and governor.

“Taylor University is pleased and honored to welcome to our campus and its 2019 Commencement exercises, Vice President Mike Pence,” Haines said. “Mr. Pence has been a good friend to the University over many years, and is a Christian brother whose life and values have exemplified what we strive to instill in our graduates. We welcome the Vice President and his wife, Karen Pence, to this 173-year-old premier institution of Christian higher education, and thank them for their love and service for our nation, our state, and our institution.”

The announcement of Pence’s speaking invitation on the school’s Facebook page drew a mixed reaction.

“I am very honored to be a part of the 2019 graduating class of Taylor University and am also very honored to have Vice President Mike Pence speak at my commencement ceremony!” Jenny Miller wrote. “Thank you to all those working hard to ensure a great day!”

Sandy Hoeks Swartzentruber wrote, “As a parent of an incoming freshman, I have to say this is highly disappointing to me. We were assured that a spectrum of political beliefs were represented at Taylor and that students of all political persuasions would feel comfortable.”

Taylor is known as a theologically conservative school. Its statement of faith says in part it is “firmly committed to the lordship of Jesus Christ and evangelical Christianity.” Its statement on human sexuality labels as immoral “all premarital and extra-marital sexual activity,” which it defines as “fornication, adultery, incest, prostitution, homosexual behavior, and all sexual activity involving children.”

I doubt the veracity of this story . Other variations I have read have indicated that its a vocal minority.

Also the claim that 3000 petitioners on Change.org means nothing. Anybody can sign anything on Change, org and liberal groups have been known to lie and inflate numbers by any means neccessary .
Point being that those 3000 petitioners could very well be members of liberal actvist groups .

They do the same thing when they want to launch boycott campaigns. Using spam Email or Bots to express displeasure towards their target hence gving the impresison that they are more than in number they are

Fact is everybody who has openly spoken about the issue is in support only "unidentified tenured professors" are against .

I read a comment on a friend's post this morning ... The post itself is really about the recent election in Alberta and that the United Conservative Party swept into power over the New Democratic Party who has had a majority government for the last four years. The NDP has pushed our province into recession and the people were angry so now the Legislative assembly sits with UCP 63 seats and the NDP 24 and the other 3 parties who ran all got zero seats.

Anyhow, it's a discussion about the UCP now being in power and how awful it's going to be with them in power (NOT)....

J: LoL no love lost for the Uterus Control Party over here either!

Mich: That is another thing about the UCp that kills me - and I am the only Christian that I know who is openly pro-choice. They want to alienate LGBTQ community and help kill thousands of women for lack of health care.....all for the sake of money and promises they cannot keep,

J: Which is interesting to me cuz Jesus never said a word about abortion but lots on loving people and supporting the poor and down trodden, on treating foreigners the same as family. Seems a bunch of the religious right need to brush up on some of his teachings.

Mich: Which is interesting to me cuz Jesus never said a word about abortion but lots on loving people and supporting the poor and down trodden, on treating foreigners the same as family. Seems a bunch of the religious right need to brush up on some of his teachings.

MY reply: Mich and J, I say this with the utmost respect... the baby in the womb is an actual human being and deliberately pulling it out of the mother surgically or any other way is murder, which the Bible is very clear about. Thousands of women will not die from their pregnancies if abortion laws are changed but thousands of children will have life. I urge you out to go see the movie “Unplanned” when it finally gets into Canada.

J: SC I respectfully disagree. Women die every day from childbirth. And removing religion from this conversation, by removing medically safe abortions you are not stopping them. Just making poor women's options unsafe. There will always be options for the rich.

    J: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/201...Not-Conception

Mich: There is no question about whether an unborn child is a human. We are not debating that. Matthew 7:1-2. You do not have the mental capacities to stand in judgement for every woman's situation and make her decisions for her. You have never had to choose between the mother's life or the baby's. And I hope you have never completed a pregnancy with a child who you knew was destined to die in your arms shortly after birth (I have). Until you face such situations it is easy for you to make blanket statements. Matthew 19:14. I would rather that some children are safe in heaven than allowed to be abused and starved here on Earth. I cannot and will not tell my friend that she should continue with her pregnancy when the doctors have told her that her heart cannot handle the pressure and she'll die before giving birth. I would rather the option be there for women to make their own choices and face God themselves, than me tell them what they can and cannot do. I am not God. Unless I'm mistaken, you are not God, either.

RS: J, if you notice the references are all from the old testament. We are living in the New Testament with new law not the law God established under Moses. The verse it references in Matthew is not about not taking what God says literally but is talking about the worldly people not listening to Him or Jesus’ teachings. The New Testament is very clear about murder and taking a life- which is what abortion is.
I don’t want to get into a debate or anything because everyone is entitled to their own opinion prolife or not. But just wanted to clarify the bible reference you shared.

J: RS, that is fair but I couldn't find anything referencing the start of life in the New Testament. If you have a reference about the start of life I welcome it.

Mich: J, I got your back. Matthew 5:17-18.

Mich: RS, The Bible is also very clear about divorce being a sin, but Matthew 19:8-9. Murder is a sin, but Matthew 5:21-22. Abortion is not for Christians, let me make that clear (Romans 6:1-3). Abortion can be allowed by Christians because people living without God do not know any better and have to make their decisions using the best of the knowledge that they have at the time. It is better to love people into the Kingdom rather than judge their actions because God hates murder. You can make the broad statement that God hates sin, correct? You can use John 14:23-24 for that. But you know what else? God loves people even more than he hates sin. Romans 8:38-39 God already provided the way for sinners (of which I am chief 1 Tim 1:15). When a woman who has had an abortion comes to Jesus for forgiveness, that is when you should tell her that she needs to deal with the sin from her past. You should not beat humans over the head with the Bible and judge them for murder if you cannot show them the love of God first and foremost.

I have not had a chance to reply.

Benjamin Krapohl, who said he was a graduating senior, claimed the invitation was a sign of disrespect to “all the non-white, non-straight students who are already pushed to the fringes of Taylor’s community.”
That says it all right there. The young students do not equate Christianity to the Bible's teachings but rather on liberal ideas about "love".
