Finland's Government Collapses Over Universal Health Care Costs

-Finland has long been touted by American socialists as the socialist Nirvana, where everything is free and everyone is happy, happy, happy. Sadly, fiscal reality hit Finland’s government as it collapsed Friday due to the rising costs of its universal health care.

The warning signs were on the wall last spring when Finland, as Leslie noted, ended its experiment with “universal basic income.”

Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who has been hanging his socialist mantle on the “success” of Finland’s socialist structure, may be the hardest hit.

    The Washington Free Beacon reports:
The government of Finland collapsed Friday due to the rising cost of universal health care and the prime minister’s failure to enact reforms to the system.

Prime Minister Juha Sipila and the rest of the cabinet resigned after the governing coalition failed to pass reforms in parliament to the country’s regional government and health services, the Wall Street Journal reports. Finland faces an aging population, with around 26 percent of its citizens expected to be over 65 by the year 2030, an increase of 5 percent from today.

It’s not just Finland experiencing such problems with its socialist policies. Other Nordic countries, also touted by American socialists and communists as the model America should follow, are suffering similar economic burdens directly related to their socialist policies...

What is referred to isn't particularly dramatic. Their governing coalition decided that since it couldn't get its reform package through parliament therefore it was time for a different governing coalition to take over and it resigned. Elections are coming up in April which will naturally produce another government. Their governments have been trying to pass health reform packages for the last 14 years without success so this is more about stalemate in parliament than about anything else.

The article linked in the post above reads like propaganda more than anything else. I don't really care what it's propaganda for or against but it is propaganda.

So it was reported yesterday that Obama addressed the freshmen dingbats that their good ideas (ultra progressive, socialist) are good but still need to be funded and that they need to give more thought to this.

When did he start eating smartpills??

The Green Deal just died in the Senate. I think the DemDems are taking those pills.

I was debating with a friend of mine on FB some weeks ago over socialism. I told him to look at all of the countries where this was tried and you will see that it always fails. His response was that those countries started out poor and that is why it didn't work for them. He further elaborated that we are in a country that is already doing well financially so it will work for us.

I pointed to the fact that if our country is doing well then it is due to CAPITALISM. This means we can only maintain this stability through capitalism.

People seem to be deceived by all of the "free" that socialists offer but they do not ever think to consider the consequences. Sooner or later, because we have rid ourselves of capitalism and use the left over money to fund the socialist programs, this money will eventually run out and since there is nothing producing an income it fall. However, common sense truly is not as common as it used to be.

You would think this would be a fundamental understanding. It's like Paul saying to the Galatians that you got here by the Spirit but now you're going finish it by the flesh? You gotta go with the one that brought you to the dance.

    Ain't it the truth.

The idea of government officials stepping down for anything other than a huge sex scandal is a completely foreign idea to the US. Our elected officials would totally run the country into the ground before stepping aside. So, when we see this happening in another country, it's understandable that we would find it completely damning. :)

As far as clearing up the propaganda, your link isn't very useful to me. I'd try google translate, but i suspect it would be easier to read in the original language.

Regarding the OP, Finland is (still) doing quite well and they are a largely Capitalistic society. I'd say all countries in Europe are largely Capitalistic.

The article gives the boring version of it. The reaction in the OP is about the same as when Scandinavians hear for the first time that the US government has been shut down and government employees aren't getting payed (they will get the money back later of course). It sounds dramatic but isn't necessarily and it happens quite often.

Huh? Venezuela is a prime example, it went from the WEALTHIEST country in South America to the poorest, with people literally starving to death, in less than 20 years when they chose the socialist route:
