So 666 (and 616) refer to emperor Nero then. The book of Revelation was written after Nero died so that means that a Nero-like character will emerge again.

One theory that has resurfaced is the head that bears the marks of a mortal wound (Rev 13:3) but has been healed may reflect the myth that Nero did not actually commit suicide in 68 but went into seclusion and would return at the head of Parthian kings for the destruction of Rome. It is said by some that in early Christian tradition there was a belief that Nero would return with a combined idea that the Antichrist would rise up with demonic powers from the abyss to persecute the church.
Non-believers who live during this time are filled with wonder at this marvelous revivification of Nero. This is a direct reference to cult-like allegiance of emperor worship. Emperor worship at that time was commanded and enforced due to the claim that the Caesar of Rome was divine. The apostle John holds that this worship is actually directed to Satan, who has invested the beast with his authority.
On an added note, some think that the thrice-repeated six is a meaning of evil, since 6, falling just short of 7, the perfect number, carries the sense of imperfection. The practice of giving letters of a word or name their numerical equivalent, speculate to form Neron Caesar, which transliterated in Hebrew character adds up to 666. The Latin spelling Nero used, the sum in Hebrew transliteration is 616 (as Colonel stated). At the time when Antichrist reigns during the great tribulation, and his mark is fully operational upon the human populace, the non-believers will be persuaded that his rule and empire will be invulnerable. Yet, believers who are still alive during this time are assured that this embodiment of worldly demonic evil will be overthrown and crushed at Christ's return.

Ok but that hardly has any significance other than that he happened to live to be 777.

It's not found in the bible other than what the Cardinal posted. But:
God did rest on the seventh day and there are multiple sevens found in the last book of the bible.
Revelation says there are:
7 Churches
7 Letters
7 Spirits
7 Golden Lampstands
7 Stars
7 Horns
7 Eyes
7 Angels
7 Trumpets
7 Thunders
7 Thousand People
7 Heads
7 Crowns
7 Plagues
7 Golden Bowls
7 Hills
7 Kings
7 Last Visions
Although there is not a sequence of three sevens lined together that reflects any significance found in the bible, the single number 7 seems to be of importance to God.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

Number in Scripture
Its Supernatural Design and Spiritual Significance

...PART II
ITS SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE
SEVEN
We come now to the great number of spiritual perfection. A number which, therefore, occupies so large a place in the works, and especially in the Word of God as being inspired by the Holy Spirit.
In the first part of this book we have enlarged somewhat on the importance of this number in Nature and in Grace, so that we need not here repeat many of the interesting facts already given.
As a number the actual word and number "SEVEN" is used as no other number is. Seven and its compounds occur in multiples of seven in the Old Testament. ....

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
(Ephesians 4:17-18)
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
