I looked him up. It doesn't affect what you posted here, VW, but he was an out and out racist who taught that black people were born to be slaves. He's on Wikipedia.
Thanks Bookie. I did not know that Mr. Priest held to such horrible beliefs though not completely surprised. It is pretty sad but also sadly normal for a lot of preachers of that time. Charles Parham immediately comes to mind. He was the man who taught William Seymour the truth about the baptism of the Holy Spirit that was instrumental in the Azusa Street revival/Pentecostal movement. Yet the man was a racist KKK sympathizer who made Seymour sit outside of the classrooms from which he taught Biblical truth.
Furthermore, a lot of the holiness literature from that era has some great Biblical insights in them but you will also run across a lot of the racist attitudes of that time too. Never forget reading one holiness preacher chastizing Moses for having married a Black woman and took that opportunity to write about how marriages between races was not God's will.
Nonetheless, Priest taught the Biblical truth in this particular instance so I will let the quote remain though I may be very reluctant to quote anything else from him in the future.

Ezekiel 33 (03-13-2017), GodismyJudge (03-12-2017), Quest (03-13-2017)
Then their writings are suspect seeing they obviously were not being lead by the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ... if they were, the Lord would have revealed to them that He loves ALL people equally the same regardless of their skin color.a lot of the holiness literature from that era has some great Biblical insights in them but you will also run across a lot of the racist attitudes of that time too.
Just like today... those that teach OSAS are not to be trusted since the Word does not teach this and politicians that support abortion are not to be trusted because if they don't get that humans have a right to be born... they're going to skrew up a lot of other stuff too.

Dake?
Didn't Hagin Jr run afoul of Fred Price with some similar views? I never heard that whole story.
Ezekiel 33 (03-13-2017), GodismyJudge (03-12-2017), victoryword (03-13-2017)
Fred Price has a three volume book series (transcribed from his audio/video teachings) titled "Race, Religion, and Racism". In volume 1 he talks about the controversy between him and Hagin, Jr (and the rest of the family). He does not use any names but only someone who is unfamiliar with the Faith Movement would be ignorant as to who he is referring to.
In the next two volumes he Biblically refutes Finis Dake's teaching on Biblical reasons why races should not mix. I think he makes a number of very good points. However, I happen to love most of Dake's writings. His beliefs on race were definitely flawed (again, a product of his times I suppose) but you don't toss away all the good that a man has taught because he was idiotic when it came to certain things. Otherwise, my bookshelf would not have one book, to include the Bible, since many of its contributors, though God gave His inspired Word through them, had flaws. Peter was a compromiser when it came to race issues, but I still read and preach from his epistles.
Dake's Annotated Bible has much one can be blessed by and his "God's Plan for Man" book has been a tremendous blessing to me.
