Do you buy new plants in mid summer?
If you don't you should, they're majorly discounted! I bought 6 flowering perennials that are in gallon containers at 3 for $10 from a local farm market.
My pretty new arrivals are 2 blue cardinal flowers:

One fringed Shasta daisy:

...and 3 tall phlox...one pink, one purple and one white:

Most of mine were too, but I do sometimes get tempted in the spring.

I usually wait until they go on sale before buying my annuals, but this year I didn't buy any. Since we had the wettest June on record, and with the flood, I wasn't sure they would even survive.
We still don't have our skirting back on the house, nor do most of the neighbors who lost theirs in the flood. We spent quite a while waiting for the ground under the house to dry up and every time Mr C gets ready to work on it, it rains some more!
I have really missed my outdoor plants this summer. I did plant one canna stalk I got from dd. She dug up a bunch of hers to take to their new home so I asked for some.
Those are lovely flowers you selected Krys!

Keep checking garden centers, the discounts are getting deeper. I got three hanging baskets of gerbera daisies for 50 cents each at Lowe's this weekend, they were normally $10.98:

I also picked up a red coneflower plant. I have a lot of the pink/purples ones and I knew they came in white also but didn't realize a red variety was available. Lowe's had it reduced from $13.98 to $5.00, I love red flowers. :)

I was disappointed that my perennials did not all come back this year.
