    fiction

Looking at what others said in the poll about genres of books, it made me wonder how often, if any, people read fiction...remember to vote above.

I'm suspicious of people who never read fiction.

Seriously? I don't have anything against people that read fiction, or the reading of fiction, but for myself personally, I don't have any time to read fiction. I consider it a waste of my time. If I am going to read something I am going to read something relevant to my life, mainly something that is expounding on scripture, etc. The older I have gotten unless there is some reason to even read a scriptural book, or I feel compelled by God to read it, I don't do that much either. Although I do have certain books that I revisit regularly that really speak to me and feel there's revelation in it that I need to continually keep in the forefront of my life. That's just how I'm wired.

I could easily say that I doubt Jesus is really concerned about us reading fiction, and would have us spend our time more on things that are relevant to reality. But I'm not saying that. But I think I could make a much better case for that than 'I don't trust people who don't read fiction'. That's a pretty high value you put on fiction to actually question a person's character that doesn't read it. And yes, that is what you are doing by saying you are 'suspicious' of them as if something is actually wrong with them because the don't read it. Again, I'm not saying anything is wrong with someone reading fiction, but there certainly isn't anything wrong with somebody that doesn't.

    Just sayin'. :)

I don't read for fun near as much as I used to. (or would like!)

    I miss it.

No, not seriously. I was trying to be funny by overstating my feelings. I do think people who don't read good fiction (operational word is GOOD) are missing out on something wonderful.

Let me ask you this, though. You consider reading fiction a waste of your time. Do you ever watch fiction on TV? Any sitcom or drama series is basically fiction on the screen. Movies are too. If reading fiction is a waste of time, do you also consider watching fiction a waste of time?
