So when you come to the parables Jesus told, you skip over them because they're stories? You skip over the story of the prodigal son?

Jesus never told an untruth. He spoke Truth only. Therefore, in the parables he was not using fiction but He was telling illustrative stories that were true. I believe there was an actual Prodigal Son. I believe the story was true. Jesus would not deceive anyone.

Jesus even said He was telling the truth in the form of parables (stories) so that those who had ears to hear could hear.
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them" (Matthew 13:10-11).
He often began his parables by saying "The kingdom of God can be likened to..." Or "Suppose one of you..." To me, that means it's an analogy, and illustration of what the kingdom is like. I also disagree about the parable of the prodigal son.
Jesus often used stories to illustrate truth. That's what fiction (properly written) does too. If you've ever watched the movie "The Robe" or "Ben-Hur" you've watched a novel made into a movie. There's no difference between watching it or reading it...although I believe the latter is a better use of one's brain than vegging in front of a TV screen.

Jesus did not use stories to conjure up a hypothetical in order to teach a truth. He never used fiction, like the Robe, which is not a true story, in order to make a point. No! He was the Eternal Son of God who cannot lie. It is impossible for him to lie. Fiction is made up stories and I do not believe in spending my time reading such baloney.

Fiction is not a 'lie'. Parables are not a 'lie'. Even though both are made up.

God gifted mankind with imaginations. How boring the world would be without make believe and pretending.... even visualizing what heaven will be like.
The last fiction I read was the Left Behind series... I read 11 of the 12 and couldn't bring myself to read the last one because I don't want someone else's imagination telling me what the rapture of the church is going to look like.
Other than that, I rarely read fiction. When I started walking with the Lord, I wanted to read books that would help me grow in faith so I set fiction aside for the most part.

The fiction I read was mostly horror/occult, BC. So threw all of that away.
