Let me ask you this, though. You consider reading fiction a waste of your time. Do you ever watch fiction on TV? Any sitcom or drama series is basically fiction on the screen. Movies are too. If reading fiction is a waste of time, do you also consider watching fiction a waste of time?
I took it you meant it as a joke. I feel like you do Bookie, watching tv or movies is the same as reading a book.

I read fiction daily although once in a while I throw in a non fiction. I seldom read Christian non fiction. In the end, much of it is just some person's opinion, as are commentaries. I generally stay with the Bible for my Christian edification.

I would have taken it as funny if you would have used a less serious smiley. I could only take it seriously with that smiley.

You missed the point. I knew that's what you would come back with in 'defense'. My point was that if you were serious, then a case can be made for the other side. "Again, I'm not saying anything is wrong with someone reading fiction, but there certainly isn't anything wrong with somebody that doesn't." Or watching fiction or whatever. The point is everyone does what they do and shouldn't criticize someone else because they read fiction or don't, watch fiction or don't, etc., and make a serious statement about someone's character based on that.

Fuego...he was joking. You could have said, "I don't trust someone who doesn't eat bacon " and we would have laughed.

Why don't you sit back on Dr. Lisa's couch, and let's work out why you're feeling guilty and acting out over not reading fiction?

Well sure. If I said bacon that's obviously kidding. This is entirely different. His name is BOOKman. He's pretty serious about books.

True, but your point was that reading fiction is a "waste of time." I was just asking if you also consider watching fiction a waste of time? (Is that the right smiley?).

    Saw this today...

There are just SIX plots in every film, book and TV show ever made: Researchers reveal the 'building blocks' of storytelling

From Harry Potter and Romeo and Juliet to the stories of Oedipus and Icarus, almost every tale told conforms to one of just six plots, researchers have claimed.

A major new analysis of over 1,700 stories identified the core plots 'which form the building blocks of complex narratives'.

Researchers used complex data-mining to locate words linked to positive or negative emotion in each story to reveal the set of arcs....

    ***

    ...WHAT ARE THE SIX ARCS?

    Fall-rise-fall:
'Oedipus Rex', 'The Wonder Book of Bible Stories', 'A Hero of Our Time' and 'The Serpent River'.

    Rise-fall:
'Stories from Hans Andersen', 'The Rome Express', 'How to Read Human Nature' and 'The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali'.

    Fall-rise:

'The Magic of Oz', 'Teddy Bears', 'The Autobiography of St. Ignatius' and 'Typhoon'.

    Steady fall:

'Romeo and Juliet', 'The House of the Vampire', 'Savrola' and 'The Dance'.

    Steady rise:
'Alice's Adventures Underground', 'Dream', 'The Ballad of Reading Gaol' and 'The Human Comedy'.

    Rise-fall-rise:

'Cinderella', 'A Christmas Carol', 'Sophist' and 'The Consolation of Philosophy'.

The most popular stories have been found to follow the 'fall-rise-fall' and 'rise-fall' arcs.

Fiction is reading things that are untrue. They have no relevance to my life so why bother with it. I like something that I can read that is real and true and dependable. Fiction is biblical!
