About 3 years ago, flying to my cousin's wedding, I set my phone down on the Canada side of security, went through security and then realized I didn't have my phone. You think they'd let me go backwards through security and get it? Or have one of their agents bring it to me??? ummm ... nope.... so I got to Seattle without my cell phone. I was grateful for a payphone then, but put a 30 second call to my aunt's house on a credit card and it cost me $30.
Thankfully, my phone was located and taken to lost and found and when I got back to Vancouver after the wedding, so was able to reclaim it. I was extremely thankful for that.

That's crazy! Why couldn't one of their people go get it for you?!
