Though it is not a sin, I still don't like them in church. It is more a cultural thing. God does show interest in what is worn. Like Moses take off your shoes. So take off your hats. The church is a place of God's presence whenever His church gathers in His Name.

I don't wear one, and I've never seen one being worn, but I wouldn't have a problem with a person who wears one.
Generally speaking, at least in the US, the overall trend has been towards casual. When I started working in the 80's, everyone wore a shirt and tie to the office. Now, most wear jeans or slacks. Nobody wears a tie. (I have always despised ties.)
In our church, there are a variety of dress styles, from formal suit-and-tie to blue jeans. The elders dress more formally. I tend to go more towards casual, but at a funeral I'll dress very formally, including the (despised) tie. Nobody objects to what anyone else is wearing.
Out of respect, when visiting, I conform to the prevailing norms. (When in Rome, ...)

Funny thing about living in Israel. Jewish men wear a head covering in Synagogue as a sign of submission to God. It also is a statement of submission to the Rabbi. Since Jesus is my Rabbi, I don't even notice if somebody is wearing a hat or not. Of course, when I have a tour group and take them to a Catholic or Orthodox church i instruct the men to remove obvious hats. The knitted Kippa is acceptable in those churches so I don't bother about that. I went to a Jewish Orthodox funeral today and the family requested that all of the men wear white shirts and some sort of head covering. No problem. But it is all about tradition, not faith or salvation.

1 Samuel 15:7
7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
I wouldn't concern myself with things God doesn't.

This brings back the days of the church age 1980's and 90's.
We had to jump through the hoops to be a member. If you were a member, you were approved by leadership and only then allowed to be in "ministry"...which translated means "involved". If you were in ministry you had to be in church at a minimum of 2 services per week. If you were on the platform you had a strict dress code, much of it echoed by the "basic Bill" seminars ( Bill Gotthard, Institute of Basic Youth Conflicts). God help you if you fell short. The ironic part?? Membership applicants began to tail off and gradually became the albatross around the Church's neck.
All of this was in that grand era of "doing everything with excellence".
