Thread: OK, Brothers-in-Christ, Need Your Opinions...

I wouldn't judge them on this one infraction. I agree they may not know it's disrespectful. I'd only be concerned if there were other signs of disrespect.

One way to handle this is to have a note in your weekly bulletin about this and other similar courtesies. Our weekly bulletin reminds people to not wear scents to the service. We have a couple of people who can't handle scents. We also remind folks to turn off their cell phones. You could have a note that reminds men to remove their hats in the sanctuary as a sign of respect.

Is it OK for a man to wear a baseball cap in church
why not? Why do we need so many rules as free christians?
A baseball cap has nothing to do with salvation.
The Bible does not even mention one.
This is a question about culture, and has nothing to do with living in Gods love.

The wearing of caps can reveal a person is more interested about themself and how they look and can reflect their own lack of love towards the church and others
If you really loved you would respect the protocols of the church - I have preached in different congregations and you at least try to find out what are the basic cultural settings

Now this doesn't apply to the unsaved who come into the congregation totally ignorant or to new born again believers who have baggage - much love and grace needs to be extended to them

But those saved for years who suddenly wear caps can reveal a smug attitude and pride

A few years back I was asked to be a leader/minister of a outreach church that ministered to the those who wouldn't go to a 'normal' church and there were no expectations for them because of their
    already disadvantaged position.
As long as they didn't swear and shout at you while you spoke we were very gracious - one guy did start yelling at me while I was speaking

On the other hand, getting legalistic and picky about such is fastly becoming useless and akin to the proverbial rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic.

Of course, they don't wear the caps while in the pulpit, but we wonder if it's just a matter of time, before they will?

We are just blown away that (apparently) neither of their fathers seem to have a problem with it.
PKs. That's probably a whole nuther topic. This is probably more a reflection on their status in the church. I wouldn't call it rebellion so much but it's definitely some flexing. I doubt that a standard issue attendee would do that, wear a cap.

Now if the church lady wore a Chicago Cubs cap with pony tail out the back...yeah I'd switch churches.

I am not sure if it is wise to judge people by the outside. Why does a baseball cap show a lack of love?
Do we really need a lot of extra laws for Jesus followers?

something else: if someone in church wearing a baseball cap, it is none of my business. I will great him friendly.

I think it's custom more than anything else. When I was a kid, we were taught that men remove their hats when they are inside, not even just at church. I wonder if that custom is changing as I see men wearing hats inside more now. It might not be rebellion (though it certainly could be) but just changing times, like women wearing slacks to church. When I was a kid, you wore a dress or skirt and blouse.

True godly Love is Considerate of others. This applies to a long standing male member who decides to wear a cap/hat when the culture of the church considers it disrespectful
Church is not about your ego and looking cool or wanting to impress others with fashion etc.
If I love my fellow church members I would be attentive to what I wear . As I said previously with new converts and sinners this does not apply.

No one disagrees that we should be friendly to everyone but that is irrelevant to the topic
