I dont believe that anyone is supposed to pray in tongues every waking minute.

Well, 'supposed' to is one thing. But it sure wouldn't hurt if you did. You can't ever get enough of the Holy Spirit Himself praying His perfect will, mind and purposes through you.

It will sound similar to my typical tongues. I sometimes speak in more intricate tongues and I'm unable to reproduce that in my own power. Real tongues originate from ones spirit, speaking in real tongues for two minutes is more profitable than forcing something that sounds similar for hours on end. It is of course possible to speak in actual tongues for hours but only if it is Spirit driven.
I really don't think that's a real concern. I don't think there is an over-abundance of people out there praying in tongues out of their own mind. That is very difficult thinking of all those syllables instantaneously to actually be praying out of one's mind.

In the analogy of Charles and Frances Hunter...the well is full, just open your mouth and let the tongues flow....

Seems you don't see that the well is always full? I do....we just willfully often refuse to turn on the faucet and don't stop to consider why?

Paul indicates clearly this is the case because he instructed Corinthians that if there was not an interpreter present to pray to one's self...so he clearly believed that was a matter of the will...not to NOT speak in tongues but to do so in appropriate ways..Not loudly, distracting, drawing attention....

I believe the well is full and the more aware I am of that fullness the more aware I am of my on will resisting or submitting...the more I pray in tongues the stronger my faith comes and the greater my longing for more of His manifest presence...
    I agree.

Ive heard people become very repetive when speaking in tongues, it could be the mind taking over and producing syllables or groups of syllables that flow naturally. One should let the tongues out rather than try to force them out. I have even heard people appear to speak in tongues but there was something uncouth about it and the person was probably in flesh mode yet needed to appear spiritual. Quite possibly the minister in question was living in sin but was still on the platform preaching. He would go into blubb blubb blubb and people were laughing because it was so obviously not something spiritual.
Remember the message I talked about where Michael Brown referred to people who were married to other people but were still having sex with each other and claimed it was legitimate because they spoke in tongues while having sex ? Thats what Im talking about.

i was taught the importance of tongues by oral roberts in a class he taught at oru called "Holy Spirit in the now" i am constantly praying n tongues throughout the day as this enlightens my mind many times. the mind of Jesus drops onto my mind and i start thinking in kingdom terms and seeing into the supernatural. i am finding as i continue to speak in my prayer language the supernatural becomes the natural 4 me. the gifts r n operation and because of the ministry i am n i see things n other people through the gifts of knowledge, wisdom, discernment, and the prophetic. i actually keep 4 different prayer journals which includes the church, the lost, myself, and one i call the I.P.U. journal which stands for intensive prayer unit. the ipu journal is where i keep names of those who r being assaulted by (s)atan and this journal contains info about these people so i will know how to pray for them. all of my info comes from praying n tongues and waiting on the Hoy Spirit to interpret back 2 me things i need to know. there r many times i find myself in the Holy Spirit seeing these people and the demonic activity going on around them and n them. even when im not praying n the Holy Spirit i can hear the Holy Spirit praying inside of me n the back of my mind speaking to the Father the Fathers will and my needs. its not uncommon 4 the Holy Spirit to have me stop people n the market place and speak 2 them about a event or spiritual problem happening n their lives or pray for their injuries or sicknesses. its funny sometimes to watch their reaction as the Holy Spirit reads their mail. there r many times as i pray n the Holy Spirit i will see demonic spirits attached to people through a tether going into the mind floating above them going everywhere where the victim goes. i know what these spirits r. all this comes from praying n my prayer language constantly.....

The following prophecy was delivered by Kenneth E. Hagin at the Winter Bible Seminar on February 20, 1997:

“Speaking by the Spirit; not just speaking words out of your own mind or thinking, but speaking by the Spirit. Words that are inspired by the Spirit of God. Words that well up from within you, out of your spirit; given to you by the Holy Spirit. Those words spoken boldly bring forth great happenings. Speaking by the Spirit, and so the Glory of God shall come into manifestation. And some will see it like a cloud that hangs over the heads of the people. Others may not see anything but they sense the mighty move of His Spirit.”

“Speaking by His Spirit, yielding your tongue unto the Holy Ghost. But you see, taking time to pray in the Spirit. Taking time to pray in other tongues will get you tuned up; will edify you and get your tongue hooked up to your spirit so that when He who dwells in your spirit can give you utterance, then He takes over. And you speak out what He says, not what you think. Speak out what He wants. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. And so the Spirit of Seeing and the Spirit of Knowing into a greater manifestation shall come. But all of these. All nine of these manifestations, all of these worketh that one in the self-same Spirit. And at the same time, the inspirational gifts. Men, women, speaking by the Spirit. By prophecy -- inspired utterance. By tongues and interpretations; shall bring forth marvelous statements and bring to pass and bring into being in this sense realm where men can see and know the operation of the Spirit of God and the manifestation of the Spirit of God and the demonstration of the Spirit of God. So rejoice ye and be ye glad. (Ha, Ha, laughter) Hallelujah.”
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

Yesterday I spoke in tongues (the intricate kind so maybe that is a message language) and I heard the interpretation simultaneously inside my head. The interpretation was shorter and it was spoken much slower than the tongues.

I'm sure of one thing, I can't do that by myself.

    Revisiting this old thread....

Of course not....it is the Spirit giving the utterance...but the problem is so many think they have to wait until HE strongly prompts them...waiting for Him to jump in and interrupt their mind..and He does from time to time...Tongues is NOT a learned language....it is a communication of the Spirit that we join and release by faith...

But the point is we don't have to WAIT for HIM to invade our mind with a strong unction.....if we are tuned in in faith and expectancy we find He prompts far more than that....all during the day He will have us speak in tongues drawing revelation and direction in...

I'm getting in late on this discussion, and have not read the entire thread yet. I pray in tongues every day. The more I pray in my heavenly language, the more sensitive I am to the Holy Spirit. The longer I pray, the better I sound when I end in a song.
When your praise match your prayers, the answer will come.
