    Heard of Shane Idleman?

I've heard of him, but that's all. I really like this video where he defends both Bethel and John MacArthur. I like his description of himself as a charismatic "but with a seatbelt on."

We need more guys like this leading the way.

I have never heard of him .... but to say he defended Johnny Mav puts him into the reject column.

    You should watch the video.

I watched it. Just my observation is he set up this video moment by choosing the most extreme examples he could find in Johnny Mac and Bill Johnson. What I do support in this is that middle ground attitude he seeks. Me, I cant do that very well but I do try to extend some line of grace to another believer that doesnt hold to my opinion...especially when it comes to them believing cessationism. That will usually end like this: I love them but they surely wont try loving me. I dont wear Shane's seatbelt.

    I watched the whole video.

First of all, I do appreciate his spirit. I don't necessarily agree with every thing he said, but I appreciate where he's coming from, and he's sincerely looking for the truth and trying to be objective concerning both 'sides'.

    Just a couple of things:

In reference to him saying Bill Johnson teaching that 'Jesus was not God in the earth', I think he read/heard that wrong. Bill teaches that Jesus did not operate as God in the earth, but as a man anointed by the Holy Spirit, which I agree with. Was He God? Yes. Fully. But Philippians is clear He laid His inherent power as God by coming through the womb of a woman. So everything He did He did as a man anointed of the Holy Spirit as an example to us how we operate in the earth once we become God's child. As I've heard Bill also say, "Jesus was the prototype of the New Testament Christian'. I agree with that.

As far as JM and Todd Friel are concerned, they are two of the most vitriol filled ministers I have heard when talking against Charismatics. I've seen Friel call Dr Brown a heretic as well as others. And it's a very mean spirit in which he and JM speak these things in a lot of cases. When you hear Bill say something about someone or Dr Brown that they don't agree with, there is a lot of grace in how they say it. The 'mean' spirit isn't there. As FB said, "That will usually end like this: I love them but they surely wont try loving me". That's very true from my observance. And I don't wear Shane's seatbelt either.

I can see why you like that term though Bookie, because I kinda see you as a Charismatic with a seatbelt too. That's not a criticism just an observation. And I think you would probably agree with that.

Yes, I would agree. The reason is not that I'm inexperienced in charismatic matters. Just the opposite. I've been around long enough to see the over-emphasis on deliverance, shepherding, and the Word of Faith teaching. What I learned by watching the excesses in these practices was that each has a portion of the truth and we need to accept that truth and live it out. BUT there are other truths equally important. Truths that teachers like JM has. Or John Piper. Or Beth Moore. I find it helpful to my Christian life to be able to read E.W. Kenyon one day and Piper the next. As the old saying goes, I chew the meat and spit out the bones. I think a lot of Christians would be much healthier, spiritually, if they had a more varied diet by reading books by and listening to teachings by men and women of God who aren't all saying the same exact thing. That goes for the non-Charismatics as well as the Charismatics. A dose of Kenyon would do some good to JM. And a dose of JM would do some good to Joel Osteen.

In short, I find a seatbelt as necessary in my life as are boundaries. Both keep me safe on the highway to heaven. I've seen far too many Christians end up in the ditch because of their lack of discernment in these matters.

I won't watch it. I won't waste my time with it. There is too much good stuff to watch. If he cannot see how off John MacArthur is, then he is not worth my time.

He has issues with MacArthur and says so. No offense, but you're a great illustration of my point.

I will not waste my time with MacArthur or John Piper. They have both said things that cause me to reject their teachings. I love them but I will not listen to their teachings. I have no respect for them. The vile things they have said have destroyed all credibility with them.

How many Christians will be damned to the lake of fire because MacArthur says you can take the mark of the beast and still be saved?
