You Cant Shut Them Out Without...

    Shutting God out.

This is from a missionary pastor friend of mine. He tells this tragic story:

"Years ago when a teenager I often visited a Nazarene church because it had a great youth group and youth pastor. We went out street witnessing at MSU and in the red light district. I learned a lot from these people and this pastor. Then the Nazarene church issued a ruling that no pastor could be Spirit-filled and speak in tongues. Both pastors left, and the youth group left. The Nazarene leaders thought they would be better off without the messiness and the craziness of Pentecostals and charismatics. They wanted an orderly, quiet service, and they got it. I just found out that church has been permanently closed. It reminds me of this verse: "Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox." [Pro 14:4]. To me this ox represents the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. Yes it is as messy as an ox in a barn stall; there will be mud and manure and hay and spilt grain, but you couldnt have a farm without it. You would be out of business, just like Kendon Drive Church of the Nazarene. Just sayin' "

One man is bringing his family to our church that has attended a Indie/Fundie Baptist church local to his village for the past 10 years. One day he texted me a big thank you for preaching the truth and looks forward to Sundays again. This past week he said it’s like a slice of heaven feeling the presence and power of the Holy Spirit along with love and friendliness. He made my week.

His recounting of the difference is enough to grieve my heart. The Baptist pastor is a spineless man, he said. He we t on to say the pastor visited a friend’s church in Ohio and heard that friend say he needed some Holy Spirit backbone. That is the pentecostal lingo I have been brought up in. My friend not only sees the value but also the freedom. The legalism and fighting amongst themselves was draining and lifeless.

And they're totally clueless that is the reason things went downhill.

Awesome testimonies FB, though your first post is sad, it is still a reminder that it is only through the Holy Spirit that anything can happen in a local assembly of any significance.

And so many neglect, ignore and avoid the Power of Jesus through and in the Holy Spirit. This is serious business!
