They only gave part of their money.
The story of Ananias and Sapphira is an uncomfortable one that contains a number of difficult issues. What did this couple do wrong that deserved death? Why weren't they simple exposed and then given the opportunity to repent? Why did they die, and why don't we see the same penalty happening in the church today?

All good questions, but I don't have any answers for you, Brother - However, I'll be interested to hear what our "Bible Scholars" have to say on this subject too.

They lied and it was to the Holy Spirit. It suggests a very tangible presence of the Holy Spirit which made their lie directed specifically at that presence.

Yep. Just watch out about lying to the Holy Ghost. :)

I have given it some thought in the past if Ananias and Sapphira went to heaven. I don't think this was a sin that leads to spiritual death (blaspheming the Holy Spirit).

I don't think there's any evidence they went to hell. Of course there's no evidence they didn't either per se. I think some would just say the automatically did. But I don't necessarily see that.

Someone said there will be two surprise's when we arrive in heaven. 1. There will be people there we never thought would be there. 2. I'm there!
I hope they both made it. I would like to ask them what they were thinking when they made that huge mistake. And besides, I don't want to see anyone go to hell.

It wasn’t required that they give “all”, they could’ve given a portion and it still would’ve good. But I guess they wanted to appear to be something special in the eyes of the people. So pride was part of their problem as well.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
The context is in the prior verses.
At the time, certain members of the church were selling and giving so that no one among them had lack. Ananias and Sapphira were just one of many who sold possessions/land and put the proceeds at the feet of the apostles. It was the norm to sell > give ALL of the proceeds. I think they lied by omission, didn't tell anyone they held back some. I think they could have held back without consequence had they disclosed as much.
Preceding Chapter ...
Acts 4:32-37 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.
