Latter Rain Movement - 70 Anniversary

The Latter Rain Movement began in North Battleford, SK in 1948 and 2018 marks 70 years...

There's a group of people who believe that it's time to redig the wells of revival there and they started with 40 days of prayer and fasting. There's ongoing prayer and fasting as well.

Where I live is only a 90 minute drive from that small city so we are VERY excited about this and are ALL IN!!! We already have our hotel booked and have registered. The largest facility only seats 3500ppl and there aren't even enough hotel rooms available in town.

Is this the same Latter rain movement that had a big split with the Assemblies of God years ago? I remember reading about it but it’s been a long time. There were a lot of church splits and many AG pastors turned completely away from the gifts of the spirit for several years. I’m going to have to brush up on my history.

This looks like a very interesting conference. If only it were closer. I’d take my brother and nephew.

It is the original Latter Day Rain Movement that eventually went so sideways. I’ve heard lots of teaching on it and many followers went way off track but th leader stayed true.

If you go to the link, the history is there.

Former rain refers to the autumn rain, which came at planting time. Latter rain is the spring rain that occurs just before harvest. This outpouring of refreshing rain which renews the fertility of the parched ground speculatively perceives the outpouring of the Spirit which does bring spiritual renewal (Joel 2:23, 28-29).

The idea is that the early rain was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2) and the latter rain will be an outpouring of the Holy Spirit which will usher in the final harvest [of souls] just before the return of Jesus Christ (James 5:7). But I'm having a problem finding concrete evidence that Scripture clearly says the "early and latter rains" apply to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, I could concur (not that I have) that Joel 2:23 and James 5:7 simply shows that there is no metaphor intended in either use of early and latter rain, and it relates to literal seasonal rains to bring physical blessings of food.

Of coarse, I don't want to belittle the importance of the Holy Spirit's inner renewal in our own personal walk with the Lord. God wants all our heart. The process involves humbling ourselves before Him. It involves a genuine sorrow for our sins and a repentant heart. It involves a willingness to turn from our own ways, from every wrong attitude, every evil thought, every evil desire, everything that is displeasing to Him.

I would really like to attend this conference, but due to my work schedule, and my vacation dates already "set in stone," there is no way I could get away to go. Only if I could of known about it earlier before I scheduled my vacation dates, I could have "inked it in" on the calendar.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

    has it dried up?

I hear all this about the 70th anniversary of the 1948 revival in North Battleford. I hear that this conference is coming and is "70 years in the making". I hear references to Latter Rain.

You want to know something? We have been gathering IN North Battleford for camp meetings twice a year for 70 years. I live and work on the Sharon property by the airport. We don't live in 1948 any more than a baby remains a baby. So much interest on what men are creating, and not on what God has been doing.

We do NOT refer to ourselves as Latter Rain and never have. Latter Rain came out of Detroit, which the photo being used in marketing material shows.

I knew of the Beall family that began Bethesda and moved into Sterling Hts. Pastor Jim would speak of those days when we had dinner together on occasion. He was well loved.

Hi xeon25, welcome to the forums.

What I know of the revival that happened in North Battleford, I've heard from various teachers over the years. I have not studied it in depth. This is what Wikipedia has to say about it and I know that Wikipedia isn't always the most reliable source, but I'm posting it anyways.

Latter Rain (post–World War II movement)
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Latter Rain, also known as the New Order or New Order of the Latter Rain, was a post–World War II movement within Pentecostal Christianity which remains controversial to this day. For clarification in discussion of the Latter Rain, a distinction should be made between:

    The Latter Rain Revival (1948–1952)
    The Latter Rain Movement (1952–1960s)
    Sharon Schools (Global Missions)
Other groups influenced by the Latter Rain.

The Latter Rain Movement had its beginnings in the years following World War II and was contemporary with the evangelical awakening led by Billy Graham, as well as the Healing Revival of Oral Roberts, Jack Coe, and William Branham.[1] Several leaders of the small Pentecostal, 'Sharon Orphanage' in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, were inspired to look for a deeper dimension of Christianity after visiting Branham's meeting. They began to fast and pray in search of it. Later that year, groups organized large revival events, and news quickly swept across Canada and the United States, influencing many Pentecostal believers.

As the revival died down after a few years, those who had been changed by the doctrine formed various groups which became known as "The Latter Rain" (Movement). The Latter Rain strongly emphasized relational networks over organizational structure. In addition, the term Latter Rain has become somewhat of a pejorative label; therefore, many ministers who were influenced by it are reluctant to make this well known. They often choose to emphasize only formal participation. Much of the movement, along with elements of the Healing Revival, slowly dissolved into parts of the larger Charismatic movement.

Latter Rain emphases are some of the most noticeable difference between Pentecostals and Charismatics, as delineated, for example, by the Assemblies of God USA in their 2000 position paper on End Time Revival.[2] The movement was rejected by classical Pentecostal denominations.[3]

This should not be confused with earlier movements or ideas within Pentecostalism, including the Latter Rain Assemblies in South Africa, begun in 1927. Distinction should also be made between various groups with Latter Rain influences and the Sharon Schools (also known as Global Missions) organization, which has "camp" meeting grounds at North Battleford, where the revival and movement both originated.
In order to reply properly with what I've been taught, I'd have to review CDs, DVDs and my notes, which I simply don't have time for. But if you live and work there, I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to imply that I could possibly know more than you.

As far as the camp meetings at the airport in NB, I live west of Lloydminster and attend church there... and have never heard about the camp meetings, although our local Burn24/7 Team has helped with a couple summer ones run by one of the NB churches.

I hear a defensiveness in your post that may or may not be there... Is it because the group who had the vision for the "revival meetings" didn't approach the Sharon people to collaborate? I've heard that they didn't, and I consider that a shame. If they want to "redig" the revival well that is there, there needs to be cooperation and an invitation in by the local people.

Again, welcome and I'd love to hear more about the Sharon grounds and how the spiritual movement has been maintained, from your perspective, for 70 years.

........ and to continue in the thought process of the OP ....

It came to light several weeks ago that the pastor/evangelist who was heading up the meetings had fallen into moral failure. He's had to resign his church, his ministry, everything. I think he and his wife are attempting to work it out, but I can't say for sure right now.

So the planning has fallen on the shoulders of other people and if you go to the link in the OP, you'll see that the speaker list has been removed. I haven't heard anything other than they're working on it and they're asking people to not cancel plans yet to be there.

My pastor had called the pastor of the PAOC church in NB and he was told that the people planning the revival had not contacted any of the churches in town and not the people who run the Sharon property, to work together in one plan, one spirit. So MY pastor could not support those of us who had been planning to go because they were moving in to an area where they did not have spiritual cooperation or covering.

It all turned into quite the "ice cream in the fan" situation.

And now we're just waiting to see what it's going to look like.

It COULD have been so good if it had been done properly.

I went to the Global Missions website and found this:

    http://www.globalmissionsinc.org/about.html

    OUR HISTORY
Global Missions was founded May 3, 1944, as a Christian mission to promote and encourage the preaching of the gospel to every creature.

Soon after, it became a part of the work that started in North Battleford as the Sharon Orphanage, and the Sharon Bible College. In February of 1948, after much prayer and fasting the students attending the bible school experienced an incredible revival which led to the formation of many local churches across North America.

Global Missions reaches into many countries in Africa, India, the Caribbean, the United States of America, South America and the Philippines. These local churches are established on the foundational truths revealed in God's word, and through His unfolding revelation. Local churches are established and governed by local residents who are referred to as elders.

Global Missions remains a nondenominational Christian church.

We are often, errantly referred to as the Latter Rain, however, we have never taken that name.

I just discovered this open letter on the Battleford Revival website. It had been sent out via email to registrants and email subscribers.

An Open Letter To the Body of Christ in Canada:

Last January an event was initiated, calling believers from across Canada, and the world, together for 10 days of contending for our nation in historic North Battleford, Saskatchewan (site of the Latter Rain outpouring). At the time, there was a strong sense of agreement from both national and international senior leaders regarding the vision of the event. The event was being spearheaded by Breakthrough Ministries President, John Perks, in collaboration with a group of national ministries.

From January to April, some members of the steering committee raised concerns regarding how the event planning was being stewarded, and a request was made for adjustments. In addition, to everyone's grief and sorrow, it was revealed in early April that John Perks had a moral failure. He was removed immediately from the presidency of Breakthrough Ministries and the leadership of the event. Since this time, the Breakthrough Ministries board has been working diligently to deal with the situation in a Godly manner.

Our hearts are broken by the results of this incident, and the impact it is having on his family, his personal life and the ministries he was leading. Our hope and prayers are that a restorative healing process that is rooted in holiness will be walked out over the next years with his cooperation (Gal. 6:1-5).

Upon hearing the news, the remaining steering committee for the North Battleford event immediately began to seek the Lord. After much prayer, counsel with national and international leaders, there was an agreement that the North Battleford event should go forward. We believe that the North Battleford meetings are rooted in a genuine vision from the heart of God at a critical time for Canada.

It is clear that Canada is in a season of crisis various fronts. We have the highest suicide rate on the planet with our Inuit youth, First Nations divided is greater than ever, our national debt is at an all-time high with the highest personal debt rate in the world, abortion up to 9 months remains legal (at taxpayer expense), the purchase of sex and recreational marijuana use is on the verge of being legalized, immorality is being taught in our schools and more... .

We need to cry out for His mercy and a great turning back to God in our nation at every level. We need revival. We need God.

We believe this is an appointed time. We believe heaven is inviting the nation, and the nations, to gather in North Battleford in November to believe Him for a tipping back of the scales from unrighteousness to mercy and righteousness.

We pray you will join us there. If you have already booked hotels, flights, and cars, please do not cancel. We will be gathering to contend for our nation and for revival. We hope you will be too. We also ask for your patience as we transition organizational details from the former leadership to the stewardship of the steering committee.

Finally, please join us in praying for the Perks family and all those affected at this very difficult time (Rom. 5:20). We believe our God is one who can take what the enemy has meant for evil and turn it for good in His time and way. Our hope is for God’s amazing outcome on all levels.

With love and hope that Canada’s best days are still to come.
