Heb 13:7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.
There are many preachers that I have never heard in person. Kenneth E. Hagin is one of them. I might still have access to them through video, audio, books etc. How "old" they are doesn't matter much as long as I'm able to comprehend them. The more anointed and successful they are or were, the better.

1 Cor 3:20 "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile."
and then we are told :
3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God
Regarding men :
21a Therefore let no one boast in men.
But...
21b For all things are yours:
22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to comeāall are yours.
23 And you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.
If Paul, Apollos and Cephas/Peter are ours then so is every other minister.

I went to a conference at Angelus Temple in Los Angeles in March 2015. There is a lingering and tangible presence of God there. Roberts Liardon, whom I've heard a couple times now, spoke about Aimee Semple Mcpherson at length. He has written a series of books about the Generals of the faith, which I have neither purchased nor read, but his teaching about them is excellent and compelling.

I read that book last year. He deals with their faults to some extent. McPherson's main problem seemed to be that she worked too hard all the time and eventually exhausted herself. Etter had that problem too according to her biography but in her case it was because there was massive demand for her, they would figure out where she was at then plead with her to hold meetings.

I felt that same thing AJ. My mother said people use to come there to mock the "holy rollers". She grew up around there.but many who came to scoff ended up converting. President Ronald Reagan was a member of her church. My mother converted to Pentecostalism in Los Angeles in a tent revival.

She was probably the forerunner to a minister becoming a celebrity. She started well but her later life had a lot of scandals. Being surrounded by Hollywood celebrities would certainly affect anyone unless you made a strong conscious decision to stay separate.

I find it inspiring to read about the early pioneers! It really touched me when Pentecali posted the pic over on FB of the lady who's parents were at Azusa St. Am I remembering correctly Pente?

I think the scandals tells us more about an era where the entire tabloid industry was populated by unscrupulous paparazzis, including at the desk. How she could have avoided being lied about in the press I do not know, whatever it was that she actually did or did not do is a different matter.
