We will start seeing more healings as we make more and more disciples. When we are making disciples it is important to teach them who they are in Christ. They must understand both the authority and the power that we have been given as His representatives.
The Lord placed it on my heart many years ago that we do not see as many healings as we should perhaps because we do not pray through.
James reminds us that "The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." And then he went on to give us the example of Elijah. Go back and look at how he prayed 7 times for the rain to come after a period of drought that he had prophesied. And then, Elisha, who had a double portion of Elijah's anointing, took some time in reviving the woman's dead son in 2 Kings chapter 4.
Jesus prayed for the one blind man more than once to restore his sight.
And as I have been teaching my congregation, it doesn't and shouldn't be some long, drawn-out prayer in your best Shakespearean/King James english either. Keep it short and to the point. But also, we should not be asking God to heal the person when He already told us to do it. We should be thanking Him for who He is, for His great love for the person we are laying hands on, and that He loves them so much that He doesn't want to see them suffering in pain. Then we need to get about our Father's business, lay hands on the sick!
An example that I believe the Lord gave me was like this:
Imagine I were to gather up a group of people and tell them that I want to paint every barn in America, and then give them each a credit card and told them to get whatever they need, anything at all, in order to fulfill my commission to them, and then I sent them out to paint every barn where the owner would let them paint it.
Would I expect them to call me when they found a barn to paint, and say "Hey boss, please make this barn red with white trim!"???
That doesn't make much sense, when I already gave them everything they need to do the job and then told them to go and do it.
That is where the church is at today. Many don't realize that they have not only been told to go heal the sick, cast out demons and preach the gospel, but that everything that they need to do it has already been provided to them.
The authority we have been given in the name of Jesus is just like a law enforcement officer's badge. And then besides having been given the authority of the kingdom, we have been given the power of the Holy Spirit.
We have to go and make more believing believers.
