Thread: Outside of straight Scriptures, the best teaching on Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

  1. #21
    I've told this here before:

I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit without any prior teaching. The only thing I knew about it was my parents and some other family members were seeking this infilling. I really didn't know exactly what it even entailed. I was in a service where several were seeking the infilling. There was a powerful and intense presence of the Holy Spirit in the church. I remained in my seat as I didn't fully understand what was happening. I began to tremble and speak in tongues. I became aware of the leader's wife standing next to me shouting "She's got it!" I've got goose bumps just typing this.

I had an advantage, being only 12 years old. I can certainly understand how it can sometimes be difficult for adults to come to salvation and Holy Spirit baptism.

I don't think anyone is saying there are "requirements".

"now receive the Holy Spirit" works well when the person is already aware of his presence without having been told that he is supposed to be there.

Of course everything works by faith. But you don't need a long course or a bunch of classes to get the Baptism. I am sure they did not have any in the days of Acts yet they received.

There is no record of anyone teaching them that they should speak in tongues but tongues of fire appeared above them, they received and then they spoke in tongues. But wrong teaching or a wrong approach/attitude can affect the ability to receive, there are a lot of traditional Pentecostals that want the HSB but have grown accustomed to not receiving it when ministered to. In some cases it has become something for the "super spiritual" and that doesn't promote faith.

Some do as noted earlier..to unlearn their flawed doctrine.

Exactly....they had been told to go and wait so they were EXPECTING in faith. Those who have been taught falsely have no such expectation of faith..in fact they are armored against it, thus the stronghold of false doctrine. Both the super spiritual concept where some believe in the experience but just not for themselves, and then those who don't believe it at all.

Been meaning to get back to this thread and forgot.

Here is an example of wrong teaching, or wrong assumption, or just not being taught correctly and how I approach getting people filled since so many are in error about what they believe concerining the baptism in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. And this example is indicative of MANY I have run across over the years. I might even say MOST of the people who have wanted to be filled.

I was teaching by class at Bible college on this very subject, and going through my doc on how to get others filled. I was talking about the main error many have, which is thinking that the Holy Spirit is going to take them over and MAKE them speak in tongues. I gave the example I use about it's NOT like swallowing a radio and opening your mouth and the tongues just come out independent of you. That you have to use your own breath, mouth, tongue, etc, and you have to speak yourself, and you're speaking what the Holy Spirit is unctioning/enabling you to speak. And I made the remark that you can get the 'hard cases' filled just explaining that one thing.

So there is a man in there with his daughter visiting the class and checking out the school for his daughter. He was about my age. So when I get through teaching, he comes up to me and stands in front of me and stares me right in the eyes, no 'hello', no 'i enjoyed it', no 'how are you doing?' He just looks at me and says, "I'm one of those hard cases". Let me add I believe this was a divine setup for him anyway. I normally taught that class on Tuesdays but another teacher needed to switch so I ended up teaching on Thursday instead. And he was in that class. He also told me he had been 'seeking' for TEN YEARS.

So to make a long story short, we sat down, he asked questions and I explained things to him; addressed some errors he had in his thinking; taught him how to receive. So we go back toward the back of the room and sit down in a couple of chairs with him facing me with the wall right behind me. A lot was going on in the room and I didn't want him to be distracted or self conscious. So again, to make a long story short, after talking to him answering his questions, I laid hands on him and he started speaking in tongues immediately. After seeking TEN YEARS and having been prayed for by countless people over the years. And the only difference was I took time to explain to him how to receive, and addressed his errors about how it was going to happen, and emphasized that the Holy Spirit doesn't speak in tongues, YOU do ("and THEY began to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance") and the Holy Spirit gives the utterance/enablement.

So he gets one of those shafts of wheat in the wind thing going, swaying back and forth and speaking in tongues sitting there. :) While all this was going on, his daughter was sitting a few rows up and watching us. When he got filled she started taking pics and stuff with her phone. So I asked her if she had been filled and she said no. Her dad mentions he needs to go check out of the hotel and he can go do that while I pray for her. She says ok. So to make another long story short, I talk to her, answer her questions and teach her how to receive, and lay hands on her and she gets filled and speaks in tongues. As I was leaving in my car she was standing outside waiting for him talking to her mom (his wife) about what had just happened. The wife/mom had been filled all these years but they never had.

That's an example of knowing how to minister it properly can make a difference, especially with people who have been seeking a long time. No extra requirements other than being saved, etc. Just presenting it to them in an understandable way, dealing with error. It's a shame he had to wait for 10 years to be filled just because someone couldn't/didn't know how to answer his wrong thinking.

I can give you a multitude of examples like this. The former Catholic who was now Charismatic and seeking for years, and getting him and his wife and 3 kids filled outside before a tent meeting; one fellow that others had been praying for for 30 minutes and getting no results, sitting him down and talking to him for 5 minutes and then laying hands on him again and him receiving immediately; another that hadn't received and then went out to lunch with him and talked to him and after we ate, him and his buddy getting filled in the parking lot of Chilis; the girl who cut my hair and she had questions about it because of something I said and her getting filled and speaking in tongues in the middle of the hair salon; etc, etc, etc. I've forgotten more of them than I can remember.

Is the only requirement they be saved? Yes. But we're not talking about adding requirements, we're talking about teaching them properly to receive when they are full of wrong teaching and error about it.

Great stuff Fuego ! One guy we prayed for received. As we talked about other things in his life I reached over and touched his stomach. I said to him," the Words are just right there."He said nothing."We talked another five minutes and I pointed to him again and said,"those Words have now moved into your throat." He said nothing and we talked another five minutes about his life. At this point I looked at him and said, "those Words are now in your mouth!" He finally said to us that this was all true about the Words moving into his mouth slowly from his belly. We could not get him to speak out in tongues though he acknowledged that the Words were there. He was set free from heroin withdrawal which he was having at the time.He was getting sick and he improved in a few hours and did not even suffer any more withdrawal symptoms.

Another person received the Holy Ghost Baptism on a Sunday morning after prayer. I knew he received but he did not speak in tongues at the time. I sent him away in Faith, telling him he definitely received and would speak at some time soon. He said that he was watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play that night, and as a play was being executed he went to cheer for them and out came this other language !!!!

One of the false teachings that hinder folks is the "Tarrying" doctrine. The CoG that I used to attend taught this, and I was surely "tarrying" for about 2 years when I heard about a pastor in a neighboring town who prayed for folks to receive that they did. Went to see him and it did too!!!
If it weren't for man's faulty reading of the scriptures then we wouldn't have any strongholds to tear down.
I have also on a few different occasions found oppressing spirits hindering someone from receiving. Once these were cast out, the people immediately received and started speaking in tongues.
