For me (controversial statement maybe) but the less I pray in tongues the more I realize I am backsliding! When we resist that intimacy we are in self either resisting His will deliberately or just relying on ourselves primarily. The more I am in my head the more I realize I need to get out of MY head and into HIS through intimacy of tongues.

It's quite possible to be and remain in a state of worship without speaking in tongues.

State of worship? Probably but...
I believe anyone baptized in Holy Spirit knows that when their prayer language diminishes their spiritual focus has as well...that's the point of the article..tongues is not a fluff non-essential to our relationship and our walk...If we neglect this essential there will be negative consequences...if we are neglecting this essential our spiritual focus is distracted...
Tongues is like God's Morris Code...without it we will struggle far more than we need to and rely on carnal weapons far more...

Of course we realize that this is based on experience and not on the Word of God!

So Nikos...do you speak in tongues more now or less than you have in the past?
Since the Spirit is subject to the will of man and the Spirit wills to speak intimately to the Father and the Father wills to have that communication since He sent the Spirit on the day of Pentecost, and the person does not, that's not an indication of slipping back into carnality?
They that are led by Holy Spirit.....seems to me tongues are a very essential part of that leading..so if one is following...one will be speaking in tongues...regularly...

I think it is possible to speak in tongues from one's spirit and then go over into the flesh and merely let the mind reproduce similar syllables. It is easy to do this if one makes a decision to speak in tongues for a certain duration, to go over into own power. I can do that at will and it isnt something spiritual. It will sound similar to my typical tongues. I sometimes speak in more intricate tongues and I'm unable to reproduce that in my own power. Real tongues originate from ones spirit, speaking in real tongues for two minutes is more profitable than forcing something that sounds similar for hours on end. It is of course possible to speak in actual tongues for hours but only if it is Spirit driven.

True....but that is a separate issue from being in unity with Holy Spirit and yielding and sensitive to His subtle unctions...rather than waiting for Him to interrupt our agenda...
I understand this is a relational issue though...the more intune we are to His continual presence and the more yielded we are the more we will speak in tongues...the more distracted we are by our agenda, the less we will speak in tongues...
In the analogy of Charles and Frances Hunter...the well is full, just open your mouth and let the tongues flow....
Seems you don't see that the well is always full? I do....we just willfully often refuse to turn on the faucet and don't stop to consider why?
Paul indicates clearly this is the case because he instructed Corinthians that if there was not an interpreter present to pray to one's self...so he clearly believed that was a matter of the will...not to NOT speak in tongues but to do so in appropriate ways..Not loudly, distracting, drawing attention....
I believe the well is full and the more aware I am of that fullness the more aware I am of my on will resisting or submitting...the more I pray in tongues the stronger my faith comes and the greater my longing for more of His manifest presence...
