The text says "
when the two planets will be separated by less than the apparent diameter of a full Moon", and the apparent diameter of a full moon is a lot bigger than that.
What I've read is that the two planets, when they are closest to each other during the current conjunction, will be just 1/5 of the moon's diameter apart from each other.
Jupiter and Saturn are getting closer, as they near their once-in-20-years conjunction on December 21, 2020. At their closest, they'll be only 0.1 degrees apart. That's just 1/5 of a full moon diameter. Start watching them now, and you'll see them draw close together.

It's just a lovely, feel good Christmas song. It's so cool to think that we're going to see pretty much what the mystics from the east saw to follow to find Jesus.

That's better. But then "All you need is an unobstructed view to the southwest" (as opposed to "we saw His star in the east") and it's one night as opposed to maybe 2 years.
But if it reminds people that Christ was born then that's good.

Have any of you watched the dvd "The Star Of Bethlehem"? I enjoyed it immensely through the last 14 Christmas Seasons. Good stuff if you like astronomy.

Haven't seen the DVD, but have read articles speculating that the Star of Bethlehem was a conjunction of two planets. But this doesn't make sense to me because a conjunction doesn't appear suddenly; rather, the planets come closer and closer together over a period of several weeks. The Wise Men would certainly have known what was going on.

Well I have a problem with it being a literal star. I know the Bible says star, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was literal. It may have appeared that way to them. Maybe it was a very bright angel. My question is how do you follow and actual star to an actual place? You can't do that.

Saw the two planets earlier this evening. They were high enough in the sky to be easily visible and were already fairly close to each other. It will be nice to watch them over the next couple of weeks.

Saturn isn't the easiest to view so this is a treat.

I know a pastor who watches the stars for signs and Jupiter represents Jesus. Saturn represents satan.
Jesus is going to overshadow satan on Dec. 21, the winter solstice.
