Norway Criminalizes Hate Speech Against Transgender People . . . In Private Homes or Conversations

Norway Criminalizes Hate Speech Against Transgender People . . . In Private Homes or Conversations

We have previously discussed the alarming rollback on free speech rights in the West, particularly in Europe. The move to criminalize speech has led to an insatiable appetite for new limitations and broader prosecutions. Norway is an example of this headlong plunge into speech controls and crimes in the West. This week the legislature adopted (without even a vote) a new criminal law that punishes people for saying anything deemed hate speech toward transgender people in their own home or private conversations.

Minister of Justice and Public Security Monica Maeland declared victory because speech regulation must be "adapted to the practical situations that arise." The "practical situation" includes speaking to your own spouse or family.

Birna Rorslett, vice president of the Association of Transgender People in Norway added allowing people to speak out against transgender values or issues "has been an eyesore for trans people for many, many years."

Such speech controls in Europe have led to a chilling effect on political and religious speech. In their homes, people will often share religious and political views that depart from majoritarian values or beliefs. This law would regulate those conversations and criminalize the expression of prohibited viewpoints.

As we recently discussed, a poll in Germany found only 18 percent of Germans feel free to express their views in public. Notably, over 31 percent of Germans did not even feel free expressing themselves in private among friends. Just 17 percent felt free to express themselves on the Internet and 35 percent said that freedom to speak is confined to the smallest of private circles.

The most chilling fact is that European-style speech controls have become a core value in the Democratic Party. Once a party that fought for free speech, it has become the party demanding Internet censorship and hate speech laws. President-Elect Joe Biden has called for speech controls and recently appointed a transition head for agency media issues that is one of the most pronounced anti-free speech figures in the United States. It is a trend that seems now to be find support in the media, which celebrated the speech of French President Emmanuel Macron before Congress where he called on the United States to follow the model of Europe on hate speech.

WE know this is coming world wide sooner or later. It was the plan from the beginning to silence Christians..Satan never sleeps and it is sad how many Christians buy his lies on this.

I wonder how believers in Norway and other European nations handle pressure from the govt as their freedoms are slowly taken and ungodly laws passed.
Will they stand or will they capitulate and compromise??

When we as believers are ridiculed and criticized for what is called "judging others" (though we all should be judged as the "trees" we are and the fruit we bear) and pulpits do not address the need for such, soon enough we become savorless salt. This is what Barna referred to as the frog in the kettle 25yrs ago.

The problem is 'hate speech' is disagreeing with anything they say. Not actually speech that expresses true hate.

In addition to that, their hate is perfectly fine; why, it isn't even hate.

"Muslims shouldn't be allowed on airplanes and they wear rags on their heads and should be deported" = hate speech.

"Christians are freaks who worship an invisible sky God and are ignoramuses who belong in the Middle Ages" = totally okay.

If You Think We're Exaggerating, Just Look to Norway
By Michael Brown Published on December 2, 2020
If You Think We’re Exaggerating, Just Look to Norway | The Stream

For more than 15 years, I have been saying that those who came out of the closet would want to put us in the closet, meaning that gay activists calling for "equality" and "tolerance" would want to silence dissenting voices. About 10 years ago, a Christian attorney said to me, "Mike, take that one step farther. Those who were once put in jail will want to put us in jail."

When I repeated his comment on Christian TV, I was widely ridiculed by the left. "No one wants to put people like you in jail!"

So No One Wants to Put People Like Us in Jail? ...

... More Examples: Canadian Father Can't Call His Daughter by Birth Name, Court Ruled ...

... Norway Makes Speech That Offends LGBT Persons Illegal: Up to 3 Years Jail

Now, "Norway Has Made Biphobic, Transphobic Speech Illegal." More specifically, "The penal code states that those who are guilty of hate speech face a fine or up to a year in jail for private comments, and a maximum of three years in jail for public remarks. Furthermore, those charged with violent crimes that are motivated by a victim's orientation or gender identity will receive harsher sentences."

So, a private comment deemed hateful to an LGBT person or persons could get you a one-year jail sentence. Make this comment in public, and you're looking at three years in jail, the same penalty for third-degree murder (meaning, by neglect) in Norway. You heard that right.

Supporters of the bill note that "for prosecution comments must be direct attacks against LGBTQ+ people or include language that intentionally dehumanizes them to the public."

But would quoting relevant verses from the Bible cross that line? Would stating that there are only two sexes cross that line? Would denying the term "marriage" to a same-sex union cross that line?

This much is sure. There are plenty of LGBT activists and allies who are more than ready to bring potential cases to court.

What About America? Time to Decide to Do What's Right, No Matter What

Back here in America, in January of this year, Joe Biden tweeted that transgender rights are the Civil Rights issue of the day. And he has made clear that one of his first legislative priorities (in the event that he is sworn in as our next president) will be to pass the Equality Act, which constitutes a direct threat to our religious freedoms.

    Do not be deceived.

This is one of many reasons so many of us strongly opposed a Biden-Harris administration. And it's another reminder that my Christian attorney friend, who himself was on the front lines of the culture wars, was hardly exaggerating at all.

Now would make a great time to determine that you will do what is right and stand up for what is right regardless of cost or consequence. Your compassionate courage could be the very thing that stands as the last bulwark against dangerous government overreach.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

    Nobody is taking my freedom.
i do not judge others, I disagree in values, opinions, beliefs, but I try to honor people as each of them is loved deeply by God.
I do not find support in the Bible for hate speech.

Maybe the history here is different. The first laws here against hate speech was to honor the jews dying in the Holocaust. Like in Germany it is "forbidden" to say that the Holocaust never happened.

No one agrees with hate speech but govts and businesses are starting to use laws against discrimination of LGBTQ to discriminate against christians
There is a christian couple who want to adopt and were refused permission from the govt agency because they disagreed with Transgender laws - isn't this discrimination???

People are under pressure to accept LGBTQ or you could lose your job

Because that Jewish law was used properly at the beginning it doesn't mean it can't be twisted against christians.

What if Albania passed a law saying you cannot help people in Albania unless you sign a documents that says - Mohammad is equal to Jesus
    Would you sign it?

The problem with 'hate speech' is that they define what it is. Just to disagree with the position itself is hate speech.

Nobody should be for real hate speech. But real hate speech shouldn't be against the law either. It's freedom of speech. 'Hate speech' has only gained popularity as it relates to minorities, especially blacks, and is now extented to the LGBTQ crowd. You'll never see a hate speech law that protects white people. Because the 'other side' levels hate speech all the time toward whites, in the same manner they decry it against them, but it's accepted. The whole 'hate speech' issue is a sham, used to protect a particular way of thinking and lifestyle from criticism. 'Hate crime' applies too.
