    100 Years Ago, for the second week of August 1920, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:


    New State Traffic Regulations have been passed:

    • Speed limit for automobiles on ordinary roads, 35 mph.

    • Speed limit on mountain roads, 20 mph.

    • Speed limit on all turns, 18 mph.

    • Automobiles are required to have two front lights and one rear light.

    • Vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds cannot go faster than 10 mph.


    A local schoolboy was asked by his teacher to write an essay on "The Mule." It came out this way: "The muel is a hardier bird than the guse or the turkle. It has two legs to walk with, two more to kick with, and wears its wings on the side of its head. It is stubbornly backward about coming forward.

    From Colorado Springs comes a report that 7 inches of snow fell at the top of Pike's Peak last night. It was the first time they had to send out snowplows in August.

    The Tribune-Republican newspaper is celebrating its 50 th anniversary this week. The paper was started by Greeley founder Nathan Meeker in 1870. We urge readers to purchase ads to congratulate the newspaper.

    In Mead, a wealthy rancher proposed to a woman on Sept. 17, 1919, and she took five months to decide she would marry him. He told her that because it took so long for her to decide, he didn't want to marry her anymore. She considered it a broken promise to her, and she's suing him for $25,000.

    The Chicago Legioneers traveling baseball team beat the Windsor town team 9-1. Part of the reason for the Windsor loss seemed to be that a very attractive woman was playing first base for the Legioneers, and the Windsor players rarely made it past first because they wanted to stay and talk with her.

    Lucerne farmer Will Stanley was notified his Buick Touring Car, which had been stolen, was located in New Haven, Mich. It was stolen from his farm a year ago. Police in New Haven are holding it for him.
