    A situation in Detroit today

I really hate how the media sensationalizes things and broadcasts hearsay. There was a fatal police shooting earlier today and every channel was giving 'witness' reports about how the Police gunned down an unarmed black man which in turn brought out protesters and of course the rioters joined them as well.

This is part of an earlier article about it but after reading click the link and watch the police cam videos. It all happens rather fast but the last video is in slow motion. They came to arrest the man in the white shirt and did so without incident when the man in the orange shirt, who wasn't even involved in it, thought he would take out some police.

DETROIT – A protest prompted by an officer involved shooting attracted large crowds in Detroit Friday.

Police officers were involved in the deadly shooting. It happened this afternoon at McNichols and San Juan just west of Livernois. Neighbors and police seem to have very different stories.

Protesters chanted about defunding the police and called officers racist...

The man identified as 20-year-old Hakim Littleton by family was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

But family members who saw the interaction said that's not how it happened.

They say Littleton did approach the officer but was unarmed and had dropped to his knees when officers pulled the trigger. His cousin says she saw it happen.

"They murdered him. Shot him in his back walking down the street. Oh they told them to freeze, ok put your hands up. And they did, and they shot him trying to put his phone in his pocket," said Deseanae Wells, the victim's cousin...

"The City of Detroit was one of the first in America to outfit its police cars and officers with cameras for this type of incident. Public confidence requires citizens to be able to judge for themselves the actions of our officers. The video is clear that the officer was suddenly and unexpectedly fired upon. I commend Chief Craig for moving so quickly to release the video publicly," said Duggan in the statement.

Good for those body cameras. If not for it this would be just another false report designed to incite anger and violence against police. And the family just bald-faced lying. But you know what? That won't matter to a lot of people. They'll still condemn the police for it.

Yep...already happening. The police chief released those videos at 7:30 and every station picked it up and people saw what really happened, yet a lot of the protesters remained.

    Some excerpts from another article:

...As of 8:25 p.m., about 100 protesters were gathered in the street and sidewalk outside the facility, facing off with police who formed a line outside the station.

Kaleb Franklin, 24, of Farmington stood in front of the line of police and shouted, wanting to know if his life mattered to them.

"I came out here because a man was killed by Detroit police and I feel like his life was taken," he said. "We need the police to be responsible for what they do."

Franklin said he was not looking to start a confrontation, but wants accountability because, "We've constantly been dealing with the same thing over and over....

About 10:15 p.m., during a downpour, police retreated into shelter and protesters began dispersing.

State Rep. LaTanya Garrett, D-Detroit, called for "an independent and transparent investigation" into the shooting.

"Although I applaud Detroit Police Chief James Craig for releasing the dashcam and bodycam video for the public to review, there is no need for a rush to judgment, for a life has been lost and (lives) will be forever changed from this tragic event," she said.

"I call upon the Mayor and the Chief of Police to ensure this matter is properly investigated in a fair and impartial manner," Garrett said. "If outside law enforcement agencies are needed to oversee this matter to ensure an independent and transparent investigation, I call upon our city leaders to ensure this is done expeditiously. The family of the deceased deserves answers, as well as our community...

The slow motion left no doubt. He was armed and shooting at the officer. That is amazing that the victim did not hit the officer.

Yes, a man was killed by the police. But you only feel like his life was taken? Comedy gold.

The shooter appeared to be stepping up for his friend being arrested and taken in. Or maybe was wrecklessly suicidal and was choosing the "death by cop" method (a real phenomena).

Seriously, he fired two shots at that officer and miraculously missed.

I think it was a combination of youth and cockiness. It was later determined that he was also a gang member that was probably involved in other shootings, he probably thought he could get away with it.
