Pastor's Death Confirmed By Officials As Suicide

    Guilt perhaps?
The wages of sin is death.

A former megachurch pastor has died after committing suicide, officials have confirmed.

Darrin Patrick, the founding pastor of The Journey and prior to his death, the teaching pastor at Seacoast Church, died on May 7 in what was initially thought to be a shooting mishap.

<then if you read on, and on, and on ..>

On April 13, 2016, it was announced that the Board of Elders of The Journey had removed Patrick from his position and required him to step down from all internal and external leadership positions. The reasons given were "pastoral misconduct" and a "historical pattern of sin". A letter from the elders made it clear that the misconduct did not involve adultery, but there was a violation of the "high standard for elders in marriage through inappropriate meetings, conversations, and phone calls with two women".

Sad. When your identity is tied up in all that and you lose it...

    Very sad indeed.
I can only guess that the pastors removal from his leadership position four years earlier may have played a role in Mr. Patrick taking his own life.
Also, very sad he leaves behind a grieving wife, family, and friends. They seem at a loss for words in this tragic event.
The only thing that comes to mind is that the devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy.
This is what he was able to do to this man. The aftermath that his family must be dealing with is beyond description.
I pray for them during this time of unimaginable personal loss.
I hope he is in heaven. God is just and will do what is right. So sad when I read reports like this!
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

I feel sad for him and sad for his family. I wish he had realized that pastors are human like everyone else and subject to temptation and in need of forgiveness, which God readily provides.

I was suicidal for many years before being delivered by the hand of the Lord. There is a demonic hopelessness that sets in on you when your suicidal and if God does not intervene you may eventually succumb to it. I was standing in my living room a few years ago when that sickening feeling of suicide came back to me ! I was telling my wife, "I feel suicidal. I don't know what is wrong with me?" But after a minute I realized it was not me but it was a burden to pray for someone who was at that moment going to commit suicide by slashing their wrists. I got to meet the person I was praying for two weeks later. She said when I talked with her that that for some reason it lifted off of her at the moment I was praying a couple of miles away. PTL

    Terribly sad

Some of this is related to the modern way of raising up new leaders to be 'successful' in the eyes on man

    Question

Question...Does adultery always include sex? To me, what the pastor (RIP) was accused of, inappropriate meetings, conversations, and phone calls. would constitute adultery IMO.
When your praise match your prayers, the answer will come.

Well Jesus definitely spoke of adultery in the heart. So no not always including sex. The sex just is the outward manifestation of what's in the heart. Of course we don't judge it that way, but God does.

That's the way I have understood the text where Jesus said even when you look upon a woman lustfully, you have committed adultry in the heart.
