I think a lot of people just don't like being told what to do.
Tyrants always roll out a sketchy interpretation of Romans 13 in an effort to tread on the saints. I'm sure the Brits were preaching it in 1770's. I'm pretty happy that most had the good sense to ignore the fallacious interpretation, otherwise we wouldn't have have America, the most blessed nation on earth.

David went raiding when he was living in Philistine territory (sorry I don't have the reference). The Philistines thought he was raiding Philistine enemies, but David was in fact raiding the enemies of Judah.
Peter - Peter was told by the governing authorities not to preach Jesus of Nazareth yet he and the other apostles continued
    Paul - numerous examples
    John - numerous examples

Yes, I see that this could be seen as a different matter altogether, but I see where civil disobedience in the face of tyranny may be the only way forward.
Thanks Muriel, and I just want to say that I'm not advocating blind obedience to all government decrees. If the government ordered me to do something that I believed was immoral, I would hopefully have the strength to refuse to do it.

I actually hate wearing masks because my eyeglasses fog up.

But wearing a mask is not immoral, so if the government or my employer tells me to wear one I wear one.

So today, a trip to hardware stores and auto stores here in our little town. Oddly, both hardware stores are "strac" with masks and distancing. Then, quite opposite to that, both auto stores had maybe a customer or two with a mask and all the sales reps are maskless.

This is the latest advice in AU

    In Australia?

The official advice is this: "Most people will not benefit from wearing a surgical mask.

"Masks are of benefit to people who are sick, so they don't cough on others, and healthcare workers who have frequent, close contact with sick people

"Surgical masks in the community are only helpful in preventing people who have coronavirus disease from spreading it to others. If you are well, you do not need to wear a surgical mask as there is little evidence supporting the widespread use of surgical masks in healthy people to prevent transmission in public."

    Meanwhile:

In Singapore and Germany, you can be fined for not wearing a face mask in public. In France, it is compulsory to wear a face mask in high schools and on public transport, and businesses can refuse service to customers who are not wearing a mask. In the US, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing cloth face coverings in grocery stores, pharmacies, and petrol stations.

    Conclusion:

People to whom leaders are looking for advice don't actually know. When will they learn?

I do agree - mask wearing is not immoral, unless... well, one must discern the spirits.
