Even more than linking it to Trump, I get more aggravated when they blame God. Already I have seen on social media Christians saying stuff in relation to Kobe like, "You never know when God will call you home." It really is sad that people think that God will kill such a young man, his very young child (not to mention the others who are unknown) and leave the wife and the rest of the children without a husband and a father. I mean, seriously, this paints God as the worse monster there is and is the passion behind most of my writings.

I read that he took communion with his daughter. To a Catholic that would mean that he had recently confessed his sins to a priest and had done the prescribed penance for his sins. The priest would have told him... "you are forgiven". We can't be sure about how Kobe understood that ritual but the bible does tell us to confess our sins one to another. If the priest was saved he probably told Kobe, "Christ forgives you", the rest is faith (Kobe's).

James 5:16: Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.

At my Dads funeral, the priest said "you are saved by your faith in Christ and your good works". A bit cloudy there but if you latch onto the former the latter should follow.

Hard to say as the article really isn't detail oriented and this quote doesn't explain much either:

"He just came and went quietly and prayed and gave his life to the Lord..."

The priest said they only talked for a minute so it kind of sounds like he's assuming things.

Apparently Kobe did believe in God and for some reason, perhaps God was trying to warn him, he felt that he had to go to church for a moment that morning.

Most of my family and friends are still Catholic, some practicing, some not so much... but they do have a basic core belief in God. However I would say because of a lot of the catholic teachings they are not in the fullness of their salvations as much as they could be.

On a side note that church name is the same name of the grade school I attended K thru 8.

Yes, "our Lady of Angels" is a quite common Catholic church name or some variation thereof, "our Lady of something or other".

I made my first communion in a Catholic church named "Christ the King".

Queen...you forgot the queen of angels part.

Christ the King is an unusual name for a Catholic church or school, it's usually a bunch of saint names like I had for high school.

Did you go to Catholic schools also? Or was it only for catechism lessons and communions and stuff?

I went to Catholic school for 1st and the first half of second grade. Latin Mass every morning, incense, the whole bit. I had no clue what they were talking about. I had nuns for teachers, even got myself suspended for a time.

I was not molested by priests.

Yes, Our Lady Queen of Sorrows, Queen of Flying Saucers, etc, etc.
