Wanda Sykes quits "Roseanne", show cancelled

I didn't know where to put this, in the television section or here..so here it is After the first episode, I didn't watch it again so I didn't know Wanda was on it. Que sera sera...I'm no longer a Roseanne fan anyway.

The comedian and actress took to Twitter to state she would not be returning to the ABC show's second season.

This was after Roseanne Barr, the main actress of "Roseanne," went on a racist tirade on Twitter and suggested that Valerie Jarrett, a former aide to President Obama, was a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes." It was just the latest of a series of disgusting tweets she's made about Donald Trump, Obama, Hillary Clinton, and race.

Wanda Sykes was a consulting producer on the most recent season of Roseanne. Last month, she described to Metro Boston why she wanted to work on the show. Sykes says she was a "fan of the show."

"Extreme anything is nuts. Extreme left is just as nuts as the extreme right," she said. "The only way that we're going to patch things up in this country is the people in the middle got to start talking to each other instead of just battling it out on Twitter."

After extreme backlash from social media, ABC cancelled the highly-rated show. "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," network president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Roseanne Barr ended up apologizing about her tweet, but the damage was already done.

Sykes was a producer, and ABC has since cancelled the show altogether.

Oh, ok--I thought Sykes was in the actual cast..I didn't watch the show, and I'm NOT a fan of Sykes either...

    Another article--https://www.wxyz.com/news/national/wanda-sykes-will-not-return-as-a-producer-on-roseanne-following-barrs-planet-of-the-apes-tweet

Roseanne's rant is nothing new to those who follow the sitcom star on Twitter. The star bred controversy on the site before.

The premiere of Roseanne's reboot was one of the highest-rated new shows of the season, and Barr is one of the network's biggest stars, if not its biggest.

However, after the huge debut, which brought in more than 18 million live viewers, the show saw its audience come back down to earth. Its finale, which aired last week, nabbed roughly 10 million viewers.

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" host, Joe Scarborough, was critical of ABC on Twitter following the rant.

"Hey @ABC, Roseanne Barr compared Valerie Jarrett to an ape. There is no apology she can make that justifies @ABC turning a blind eye to this bigotry by airing another second of her show," he tweeted. "Even in the Age of Trump, there are red lines that can never be crossed. This is one."

Others like civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson called on the network to cancel the show.

".@ABC, how desperate are you to profit from Roseanne's racism? We know racism sells in this country, it always has. But you don't have to participate in it," he tweeted. "This apology is meaningless. Cancel Roseanne."

Ironic since Wanda kept calling Trump an orangutan...but I guess that's ok.

Good! Now if only Wanda would LEAVE the entertainment industry altogether, would be especially refreshing. And I won’t miss Roseanne either. She and Wanda can both go to Hollywood “heaven” for all I care.

Roseanne has certainly been all over the map (politically speaking).

Here she is, in 2012, running for president under the Green Party.

I feel bad for the other people involved with the show. I also thought the show was quite funny. Roseanne says she was "tweeting on Ambien." I'm don't think that's an acceptable excuse. Drugs and alcohol don't change one's opinion, they simply amplify it.

Should her show be cancelled because of her "beliefs?" What do you think? Personally, when Ellen Pompeo point blank said she didn't want any Trump voters to watch her show, I stopped watching. My personal decision. I don't think Grey's Anatomy should be cancelled because of that. (not that it would! I'm just saying I would never call for that)

I think Roseanne is mentally ill. She totally lost her mind shortly before her show was cancelled the first time. I don't really think she is a racist, but I do think she is a foul-mouthed troll. I think most of the "outrage" at her comments has more to do with her support of Trump than what she said.
