What's at Stake? - Coming soon - Social Scoring

Like private credit scores, a person's social score can move up and down depending on their behaviour. The exact methodology is a secret — but examples of infractions include bad driving, smoking in non-smoking zones, buying too many video games and posting fake news online.

    1. Banning you from flying or getting the train.

China has already started punishing people by restricting their travel.

Nine million people with low scores have been blocked from buying tickets for domestic flights, Channel News Asia reported in March, citing official statistics.

They can also clamp down on luxury options — three million people are barred from getting business-class train tickets.

The eventual system will punish bad passengers specifically. Potential misdeeds include trying to ride with no ticket, loitering in front of boarding gates, or smoking in no-smoking areas.

This reminds me of the Black Mirror episode, "Nosedive" Basically, society is ranked and judged by their social media scores. The house you live in or the car you rent is based on your score. I found it to be the most thought provoking episode they have had in the series.

When Liu Hu recently tried to book a flight, he was told he was banned from flying because he was on the list of untrustworthy people. Liu is a journalist who was ordered by a court to apologize for a series of tweets he wrote and was then told his apology was insincere.

“I can’t buy property. My child can’t go to a private school,” he said. “You feel you’re being controlled by the list all the time.”

And the list is now getting longer as every Chinese citizen is being assigned a social credit score — a fluctuating rating based on a range of behaviors. It’s believed that community service and buying Chinese-made products can raise your score. Fraud, tax evasion and smoking in non-smoking areas can drop it.

Interesting....do such activities indicate we are untrustworthy? Yes Little foxes spoil the vine....

But setting such a high price on minor infractions is ludicrous...fact is soon NO ONE will get a pass, not even the scorers....the whole world would have to implode...

Reminds me of a Star Trek episode where these aliens were seeking the 'perfect species'...found their own effort was flawed....just making such an effort was flawed....

You can avoid major, expensive repair costs with an extended service plan for your Scion. Many vehicle repairs can cost thousands of dollars in unexpected expense, now may be the time to consider an extended service plan for your vehicle.
