According to the gospels Jesus successfully blended in with the crowds to get away from difficult people. That wouldn't have worked if he was six inches taller than everyone else. When people see visions of Jesus he may not look exactly like he looked when he walked the Earth. Think of how different he looked during his transfiguration and in the book of Revelation.

He looked sufficiently different when he appeared to the disciples on the road to Emmaus that they didn't recognize him until he blessed and broke the bread, which he had done before them many times before. That coupled with all the things he had told them while walking with them on the road. His appearance wasn't sufficiently recognizable.
