Unhappy Stephen Hawking, Famed Physicist, dead at 76

Stephen Hawking, famed physicist, dead at 76

Stephen Hawking, the famed theoretical physicist who defied a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to live virtually his entire adult life with the disease – in a wheelchair and paralyzed but making constant contributions to a world few could understand – has died at age 76, a family spokesman said.

Although Hawking may have been incapacitated physically, he managed to write books, including the best seller "A Brief History of Time," teach physics and mathematics, deliver speeches and even float in zero gravity, all while working in the fields of cosmology and quantum gravity.

He was not modest about what he wanted to do. "My goal is simple," he once said. "It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all."...

"He also took a jab at religion, saying, "I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark." —Stephen Hawking.

His first wife, Jane, was (is) a believer. That contributed in part to their breakup. There was more, of course, but it was a part.

From Wikipedia: By the 1980s, Hawking's marriage had been strained for many years. Jane felt overwhelmed by the intrusion into their family life of the required nurses and assistants. The impact of his celebrity was challenging for colleagues and family members, while the prospect of living up to a worldwide fairytale image was daunting for the couple. Hawking's views of religion also contrasted with her strong Christian faith and resulted in tension.

Just watched our news report basically proclaiming what an amazing man he was ....he received his earthly honour

He must be horrified to know that God created the world and all his assumptions about creation were false

....The power of Hawking's celebrity was measured at times by the tabloid coverage he drew for his complicated personal life. His wife Jane spent hours every day bathing, washing and feeding Hawking, who required constant nursing care. He developed pneumonia in 1985 on a trip to Geneva, and Jane battled doctors who wanted to turn off his life support.

But the marriage grew strained, in part because of her Christian faith and his adamant atheism, and in part because of what she called his remote and stoic temperament. She described him as an "all-powerful emperor" who seemed blind to how demanding his illness became for her as she also took care of their young children. He refused measures that would have made life easier for her, and she felt it was "too cruel" to coerce him to see it her way.

They grew apart and, in 1990, just shy of their 25th wedding anniversary, separated when Hawking left Jane for his nurse, Elaine Mason. He married Elaine five years later after his divorce from Jane became final.....

God gave him 76 years, and still he refused to believe. How sad for him. Such a brilliant mind. Life could have been much happier for him knowing our Savior. Now he has to spend eternity with that decision.

There is a thread on an aviation forum I frequent and nothing but high praises for him through the whole thread. Just another frail finite human that has now met his Maker and realizes he knew nothing. But he knows something now.

With all due respect to the man as a brilliant scientist, this illustrates how knowledge of the true God doesnt come from deep reasoning or intelligence.

It comes from man humbling himself before God and realizing that we are utterly dependent on him, and that the wisdom of man is foolishness to God. 1 Cor 3:19
