Joy Behar Apologized to Mike Pence for 'Mental Illness' Comment

At a Disney shareholder meeting, CEO Bob Iger shared that Joy Behar, co-host of "The View," had apologized to Vice President Pence in a phone call for statements she made about him on the show last month. Iger added that he took exception to her comments, thought her apology was appropriate, and was glad to hear that she had done it.

On the February 13th episode of "The View," the panel discussed comments made by Omarosa Manigault on Celebrity Big Brother about Mike Pence. Manigault said Pence is "extreme" and believes that Jesus tells him to say things. In discussing the clip, co-host Sonny Hostin said she did not want her Vice President speaking in tongues. This prompted Behar to make her now infamous remark that, "It's one thing to talk to Jesus. It's another thing when Jesus talks to you. That's called mental illness, if I'm not correct, hearing voices."

Iger's comments came in response to a question from shareholder Justin Danhof, who is also the General Counsel for a conservative think tank, the National Center for Public Policy Research. Danhof referenced the statements made by Behar on "The View" and a tweet last year from ESPN personality Jamele Hill in which she called President Trump a "white supremacist."

While neither Behar nor Pence has publicly commented on the apology, Behar's manager Bill Stankey told The Washington Post that she had apologized and that she had a cordial discussion with the Vice President in which they discussed how they both grew up Roman Catholic. A White House source told the same publication in an email that, "She apologized to the vice president, he accepted and said he wasn't offended by her comment for his own sake but on behalf of the millions of evangelicals who watch ABC and her show. He encouraged her to make the same apology publicly on the show that she did privately to him."

    Behar’s manager Bill Stankey
How fitting for Behar to have a manager named “Stankey”.

I am sure she was filled with remorse and shame over her comments.

Joy Behar: 'I Sincerely Apologize for What I Said' About Pence and His Faith
'I felt it was important that I defend the faith of tens of millions of Americans against that kind of slander'

...Today Behar finally apologized. Commenting on Mike Pence discussing the segment on "Hannity" in which he said he forgave her after she apologized to him personally, but hoped he would apologize to Christians generally.

"I think Vice President Pence is right. I was raised to respect everyone's religious faith," Behar said. "I fell short of that. I sincerely apologize for what I said."

The hosts then quickly pivoted to their "Hot Topics" segment, where they discussed Trump's firing of Rex Tillerson as secretary of State.

    Here's a transcript:

GOLDBERG: "So last night, the Vice President was on 'Sean Hannity' talking about the recent conversation he had with Joy Behar. Take a look."

    [clip starts]

PENCE: "You and I know that criticism comes with public life. But I felt it was important that I defend the faith of tens of millions of Americans against that kind of slander. And I did so. And, you know, I give Joy Behar a lot of credit. She picked up the phone. She called me. She was very sincere. And she apologized. One of the things my faith teaches me is grace. Forgive as you have been forgiven."

HANNITY: "So does mine, but I'm not as good at it as you."

PENCE: "I said to Joy, 'Of course, I forgive you.' That's a part of my faith experience. I did encourage her. And I'm still encouraging her to use the forum of that program or some other public forum to apologize to tens of millions of Americans who were equally offended."

    [clip ends]

BEHAR: "So — Yeah. So, I think Vice President Pence is right. I was raised to respect everyone's religious faith. I fell short of that. I sincerely apologize for what I said."

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

I hope people let it go now. Christians who continue to make this an issue will undo the effect of the apology. Just accept the apology graciously and move on. Harping on it will just reflect poorly on believers.

Yes, I agree. We tend to do that with those we vehemently oppose. Time to move on.

Maybe so. Perhaps Christians should let it go, but her fruits will bear witness whether she was sincere or not. She has mouthed off for many years similar to kathy Griffin who apologized then turned right around and and said more vicious things. I think these women are controlled by demons.

I agree we should let the issue drop, and I also agree with that ^

Why? No need to protect her.
