It's all just theatre. The award/speech, etc...

Reagan had a long history of political involvement. Interesting background.

I have been amazed (as usual) on how nuts people have gone over a speech by Oprah at the Golden Globe awards show. I do not watch any awards shows and have not watched any since 1984 (or 85 - somewhere around there). Yet, one stupid speech and everyone wants to fight over the woman becoming president. You would think that she healed the sick, walked on water, and turned water into whine (er, I mean wine). But Mark Levine points out what would have been a home-run speech that I personally would have been impressed with if she had made it:

I read that by Levin. It's spot on! Sounds like a speech the old Oprah would've given 30 years ago.

The following was posted by someone I "follow" on FB. I don't agree with everything she writes, but what she said re: Oprah in 2020 is on target (to me anyway):
I want people to stop with this Oprah 2020 thing.

The way I am annoyed at all this Oprah 2020 talk. THE WAY I AM ANNOYED. Don’t get it twisted. The issue isn’t whether she’d be a good president. But you useless goats do know that being POTUS of this country means war, drones and daily acts of cruelty. It ain’t just about signing cool bills to fix things. It’s not just about making cool speeches.
What makes ME especially upset about it is that people think they are being complimentary to ask this woman to give up her life to run a country that isn’t ready to change but y’all want her to be magical negro.
I get it. You finally realize that Black women should be trusted to lead. Why? Because we manage to do it even as folks sabotage us. BUT I’m at the point where I want us Black women to be selfish about OUR OWN LIVES. Think about your motives when asking for her or Michelle Obama to run for office.
Oprah can’t be Captain Save-A-Hoe. Some of these white women who claimed to love her show for 25 years and what she stands for turned around and voted for Trump so some folks just can’t be saved. Plus, her work is bigger than any office. She is more powerful doing exactly what she is doing right now.
This country doesn’t deserve her and them and us.
Some might take offense, but such is life.

I wonder how all of this would have sounded if a white person had wrote this using the same jargon

Sorry, but that phraseology is hilarious!

I kinda agree with this part.
