Air Force Error Allowed Texas Gunman to Buy Weapons
Read and judge for yourselves..debate will NOT come from me today. I'm already "triggered' as someone who has been affected by gun violence, so I ain't up to it right now. But feel free to discuss among yourselves.

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Tex. — A day after a gunman massacred parishioners in a small Texas church, the Air Force admitted on Monday that it had failed to enter the man's domestic violence court-martial into a federal database that could have blocked him from buying the rifle he used to kill 26 people.

Under federal law, the conviction of the gunman, Devin P. Kelley, for domestic assault on his wife and toddler stepson — he had cracked the child's skull — should have stopped Mr. Kelley from legally purchasing the military-style rifle and three other guns he acquired in the last four years.
"The Air Force has launched a review of how the service handled the criminal records of former Airman Devin P. Kelley following his 2012 domestic violence conviction," the Air Force said in a statement.

According to some on this forum there are no errors. It was all a part of God's pre=planning as he had designed that this very event would take place before the creation of time.

In my opinion, even if he couldn't buy guns by law, if he was hell-bent on killing people, he would have found a way to buy them. Evil people with evil intentions will do it and a law isn't going to stop them.

Stricter gun laws would not have prevented this tragedy. Keeping this monster in jail 10-15 years would have. I think it's ridiculous that this "man" beat his ex wife and fractured the skull of his 1 year old step son and served 1 year in jail! You want to see change? Jail the violent and dangerous! Do not jail anyone who is not a danger to society. Prioritize!

Yes, if the Air Force would have followed the already existing laws, then this may not have happened.
Of course, as someone else pointed out, if murder was that deeply ingrained in his heart he would have found another means to accomplish it.

I thought he was only after his MIL...if that was the case he could have waited until she was alone or with as few people as possible. See this is what gets me with people that are so angry with a particular person (spouse, significant other, family member), they commit carnage and then kill themselves. If someone is that miserable, then off yourself and leave the rest of society alone. (Yes I know, I'm not supposed to feel that way, just venting)

As I told Firebrand on FB yesterday, I don't try to argue the 'anti-gun" thing anymore because it's more of an ideology that people have about guns, almost religious (and I'm not trying to be snarky about that), that doesn't mean that it should be easy to get guns. Someone DID drop the ball in allowing this fool to get his hands on them. I saw something posted yesterday on FB:
"Canada has strict gun control laws and we don't get mass shootings. So maybe the problem is with the person, but gun control keeps them from killing people. Australia and the UK have proven the same. And we consume your media and we're less religious, so your "moral values" argument doesn't seem to hold.
If you read the comments on our national news pages covering the stories, we all scratch our heads at why the US continues to be the only advanced economy that still wrestles with "not knowing the answer" when we solved these problems decades ago"
Makes sense to me
A FB friend responded to something Firebrand posted:
With all due respect preacher, no one wants to take your beloved gun away! We need common sense laws, that's all. We don't need assault weapons to be legal. Here's a piece of fact, preacher: These types of shootings have increased dramatically since the assault weapons ban was lifted under the Bush administration. Criminals, not only easily buy them, they steal them from others who legally purchased them. Why can't there be any common sense in this subject?
Makes sense to me.
