    Condition of rock musician Tom Petty unclear after LAPD error


    Musician Tom Petty is reportedly "clinging to life" after he was rushed the the hospital Sunday after going into full cardiac arrest, TMZ reported Monday. The site said the 66-year-old singer was found unconscious.

    The Los Angeles Police Department has apologized for an earlier report that confirmed the singer's death, CBS News reported. Cox Media Group and other media outlets also reported the death based on CBS News' report.

    Sad to hear. After the death of Hugh Hefner and Monty Hall...I began to wonder who the 3rd famous person would be. I know it sounds morbid, but it does seem to happen like that.

    Tom Petty died from an accidental drug overdose after taking a variety of medications, the family for the legendary rock star said Friday.

    Petty, who suffered emphysema, knee problems and more recently a fractured hip, was prescribed various pain medications including Fentanyl patches, his family said.
