50,000 line up in Miami for Hurricane Irma food stamps; PB County starts Tuesday
Despite the opressive heat, a massive crowd estimated at more than 50,000 showed up today at Miami's Tropical Park to apply for special food stamps made available to victims of Hurricane Irma. The temperature soared to 89 by mid-afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials told the Miami Herald that they will continue to sign up applicants until midnight or 1 a.m., though the line would be cut off at 6 p.m. "We will do our best," said Ofelia Martinez of the state Department of Children and Families. "But that’s a lot of people."

It's hard to believe that 50,000 people are lining up for food stamps almost a month after the hurricane.
