Psychological importance of believing in a higher power

Having faith in a higher purpose is a path to acceptance of finality and purpose in a human life. Spirituality is a way to find family togetherness. What you visually see in others actions influences your emotions to avoid negativity we should seek to avoid negative environments.

I think we are wired to relate to God and actually doing so promotes harmony. Not every strange belief in a deity of course but In God in general and the Christian version even better. Having an actual relation to the living God is something more than just the way of thinking though.

There is a difference between faith and relationships. Faith means you believe while relationship means you truly know god. If you have faith you can build a relationship with God and when times are dark you can let him help you see the light so you can show it to others.

People can act better, even be better through such influences...but the core of humanity can only be CHANGED by the supernatural New Birth through faith in Jesus Christ...

According to John 17 eternal life is to know God so faith naturally leads to that kind of a relationship.

the question becomes "what god do you believe in?"

our faith is only as strong as Who it's invested in.

I'd say our faith is only as strong as our heart relationship to him.

The "Who" is more important. There is only one true God, His Son, Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit, the Triune God. Faith in any other "god" or "power" is wasted.

Then the heart relationship. If you come to Christ and don't go any farther, as in developing the heart relationship, you will go to heaven but your life on this earth will be hard and without victory and joy.

I had somewhat of personal revelation about faith a couple weeks ago. I have a dear friend who's going through one of the most difficult times of her life. She was talking about the enemy stealing her faith. We got into the "Faith Chapter" in Hebrews. The revelation was that the enemy can't steal your faith, but he can come at you so hard, you can THINK and BELIEVE you're losing your faith. If you've come to Jesus Christ in faith, then as long as you believe that He is who the Bible says He is, that's all the FAITH you need. BUT, you need confidence and perseverance to overcome what the enemy is doing.

But in Hebrews 10:35, it says to "not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You will need to persevere so that when you have the the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." Of course in Eph6, it says that when we have done all, we should stand. And we covered some other scriptures...

What I'm getting at is that those who have a real, firm, heart relationship don't have their faith stolen, they have their confidence battered, broken and completely shaken. If my friend was truly having her faith stolen, she wouldn't continue to pray and listen and be doing her best to walk out what she's going through. It's our FAITH, as small as it may feel some days, that allows us to walk through, to keep going, to believe that God has something better on the other side.

Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Good post. You know when reading that I had this thought. Part of faith is...well FAITH. lol. What I mean by that is similar to what you said, when it seems your faith is 'stolen', you still have to have faith that it isn't stolen, but that it's working even though you can't see it working. That's what faith is, the evidence of things not seen. If you can tell your faith is working, then in one sense you don't really need faith. So the very fact you can't see it working should be an encouragement, not a discouragement. I know that may be a little mind game, but whatever it takes to convince you your'e still in faith. :)
