Philando Castile shooting: Police car dashcam footage released

-Authorities have released dashcam footage of the traffic stop in which Minnesota police officer Jeronimo Yanez fatally shot black motorist Philando Castile.

The squad-car video, which filmed the encounter between Yanez and Castile, shows the officer firing seven gunshots at the motorist during a traffic stop last July.

The graphic footage is evidence from the trial of Yanez, who was let go from the St. Anthony police force last week after he was acquitted of manslaughter in the shooting death of Castile.

The dashboard camera shows the shooting itself -- unlike the Facebook live video that was filmed by Castile's girlfriend Diamond Reynolds in the aftermath of the shooting.

The video shows Yanez following Castile's car, then pulling it over. Yanez approaches Castile's car and asks for a driver's license and proof of insurance...

    Unhappy

Unbelievable! I know there are others who'll disagree, but the officer was clearly at fault on this one. I heard the victim say he was not going to put his hands on the gun, yet the officer just began firing away. The officer panicked and senselessly killed that young man. This is just tragic all the way around. And that poor baby who saw the entire tragedy, as well as Castile's girlfriend. I pray they get the counseling they'll need probably for years to come.

How did she not get shot sitting right beside him?

I'm not saying who's at fault, I don't really know. But I can't imagine how hard it is to be a police person these days. Any situation you could be putting your life in danger, you never know what is going to happen, you're already on edge, and in this political climate it's basically a no win job. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Seven gunshots at that range? Did the officer think he might miss on the first shot? I don't see how the officer got off. Terrible injustice. Plays right into the hands of the anti-police Left.

He's standing there looking at the man. He could see his every move. It doesn't take 7 shots to stop a man in a seated position who is simply reaching for his wallet. The officer panicked. If the man meant him harm, he wouldn't have volunteered that he had a gun.

He wasn't aiming at her. You can clearly see where his aim was. His weapon was aimed directly at Castile.

True...I see several errors in that video...the minute the officer said 'Don't reach for the gun' Castile should have froze......I understand it happened really fast and the fact the officer said that several times is probably why he got off...Castile did the right thing in declaring the gun but at that point he should have waited for further instructions....I am not blaming HIM...the officer was clearly at fault due to his high FEAR mindset....but it still could have been avoided...I pray people will watch and learn from this video...the reality of the heightened tensions calls for heightened awareness...and more careful response...

Firing the officer was the right thing t do...he was either poorly trained or just a bad fit for the job (sorry that was not realized BEFORE someone lost their life!) This fact will be the grounds of the inevitable civil suits...

Reaching for wallet....where was he reaching? Where was the gun? These are questions the officer should have asked next...and might would have had Castile become STILL...A LOT to learn from this situation....on both sides...
