Sir Roger Moore, James Bond actor, dies aged 89

Actor Sir Roger Moore, best known for playing James Bond, has died aged 89, his family has announced.

He played the famous spy in seven Bond films including Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill.

Sir Roger's family confirmed the news on Twitter, saying he had died after "a short but brave battle with cancer".

The statement, from his children, read: "Thank you Pops for being you, and being so very special to so many people."

"With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated," they said in a Twitter post.

The actor took the character of James Bond in a more humorous direction than his predecessor Sean Connery...

Sean was my favorite too. I think Moore might have been my least. He played it a little too tongue in cheek for me, and the movies were that way too. Craig is probably my second favorite and the current writers. I like the serious way it's played.

I remember seeing Goldfinger at the Roosevelt Drive In when I was probably about 8 or so.

Well, I guess I wasn't paying much attention to his "acting or the quality of the storylines."

The program seemed too juvenile for me. But I guess it was good fit for some.

Well I guess that explains it. I'm looking at acting and you're looking at...ahem... something else.

Richard Kiel who played Jaws, the most memorable Bond villian of all time, passed away some time ago and he was a born again Christian. He was perfect for Roger Moore's tongue in cheek Bond movies. My favorite Bond movie is "Tomorrow never dies" with Pierce Brosnan whom I don't like that much but it worked at that time. That was 1997 when I decided to use "Mr. Bond" as my alias on carm. I also like Timothy Dalton as Bond, his version is darker without being cynical like the last incarnation is.

Sean Connery is James Bond as far as I'm concerned, but Pierce Brosnan is my 2nd favorite...

Daniel Craig, while he has that cold, steely look, is my least fav, because in my mind, 007 is, and always shall be "Tall, dark and absolutely handsome."

I can even deal with an older, distinguished Bond with salt and pepper hair, but no Blonde or sandy-haired Bonds for me!
