Are you sure there is no relation to the fact that the Paula White scandal became news while he was preaching in your area and he had to explain that from the pulpit ? You mentioned this earlier. He seems to be doing well enough elsewhere.

It seems like he could never recover from the whole divorce scandal and the ordeal with Paula White (even though his wife took him back later on). I would give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the IRS.
I went to a Hinn crusade here in Atlanta back in the day in a packed arena, probably 15-20k people. I guess all that's gone down over the years has hurt him. But that service was like 4 hours of heaven on earth, the Holy Ghost flowing like a river the whole time.

I'm thinking maybe early '90s? I'll see if I can find out. A friend that was with me may know.

Early nineties will do. Hinn got a bit kooky at that time but got better and repented from some stuff. I suppose the impression got stuck and the damage was done just there is a delay before interest wanes. Reputation is important and with too public and too person oriented ministries there is more vulnerability.

I went to a handful of crusades and really enjoyed them myself. Benny was very eccentric, there was some theatrics, coming out in all white to the song "how great thou art" (like Kathryn?), but I can overlook that if people are getting touched by God and if his presence is there. A lot of men who God uses are a bit odd and i'm from Cali and we're cool with weirdness LOL.

The one thing that really bothered me though was this. I remember showing up to one crusade and seeing all these elderly people waiting in the hot sun for 8 hours and then when they finally let everyone in, sick people, people who were in stage 4 cancer, old people with walkers had to sit way up in the balcony. Some had to climb a lot of stairs, while the high donors got priority seating in the front. Imo, that's no way to treat people. I got VIP seats and I didn't have to wait in any lines because my friends were involved in music.

Benny Hinn is still doing large crusades worldwide. I found a video from a 2015 meeting in Ukraine and it looks like the large arena is packed with people.

That is against scripture....here you in fine clothes take the best seats....hey you tatty person, move to the back and make a place for the finely dressed.

A lot of ministries put their partners in the best seats...

I guess I can understand it to a point. You don't leave people who have gave of themselves generously to your ministry outside in the hot sun, waiting in long lines for 8hours after giving you large sums of money that help provide a place for the poor, sick and needy to come to, but in my view, neither should elderly or crippled people be left outside or be made to sit in places that are difficult to get in and out of.

Sorry, but I have to disagree on this one, Brother. James chapter 2 makes it pretty clear.

I do not have class envy, but we have lived in modest circumstances all of our married life of nearly 43 years. Business people treat you like you are trash when you live in a modest home that isn't in the finest neighborhood. That is just one example. I believe the ministries kiss up to those who keep them in business. Give me a Mother Teresa any day.

And yes, we give to ministries as we are led.
