I haven't watched TBN in a couple of years but when I did watch them on a semi-regular basis I was disturbed by many of the celebs that they would bring on the station. Just when you think that the celeb was genuine in their walk with Christ then you would find them in a movie saying and doing things that Christians should NOT do, or say ungodly stuff in an interview, or worse, the news reports them being drunk, buying a prostitute, or some other crazy thing.

My first pastor back in 1985 was very critical of Christian TV practices of bring celebrities on their shows, especially when the person is just newly saved. Many of them need to be discipled for a few years before giving their testimony on TV. If they are not showing any fruit then they should not hurt the cause of Christ by professing Christianity.

But I will commend Harvey for NOT backing down against the criticism of meeting with Trump.

    Amen, Brother!

While I applaud his seemingly open-mindedness in meeting with Trump, I've never been a fan - He praises God in one breath, and then curses and talks a lot of trash in the next breath.

I'll never forget (a few years ago) when my (Christian) hair stylist was playing a video (in her shop) of him doing his standup routine and all of a sudden, he recited a speech where he just quoted scripture up one side and down the other, and the crowd went wild!

I sat there, with a poker face, and my stylist said, "You don't like Steve Harvey?"

I said, "Well, he needs to decide whether he's gonna glorify God or tell crude jokes as a standup comedian."

She got sarcastic and said, "Well, people need to stop judging Steve, because God is not through with him yet!"

    Whatever!

I've always said they need to lock up Christian celebrities when they get saved for 5 years and disciple them. TBN and all the Christian shows liked to display them like trophies when they don't know anything yet.

He's the dictionary definition of a carnal Christian. But I still love him, and enjoy some of his comedy. When some celebrities get saved, it's usually a "celebrity" preacher that led them to Christ.

I believe Steve hung around with Bishop Jakes, Rev. Clifton Davis, and the TBN crowd for a while during his early years as a Christian, and many other celebs like Yolanda Adams.

Unless he gets around mature, Spirit-filled believers for an extended time period, I'm afraid he'll stay a baby for a long time.

I used to like Family Feud. Vulgarity blatantly rules the airwaves now. I've watched bits and pieces of Harvey's talk show... just run of the mill.

I wonder if the video was the one he did at Jakes' Megafest several years back, called "Don't Trip, God Ain't Through With me yet" or something like that. I saw it when I was visiting a church one evening. I wasn't impressed--he basically omitted the "cussing" but the style of humor was still a bit crude.

I laughed so hard watching that DVD. I was at a fellowship and they played it while we ate. Particularly when he talked about "laying hands" on the neighbor who said something out of the way to his son. Also liked the end when He did the "introduction of Jesus".

I guess it depends on one's taste, but I don't recall anything crude. Carnal? Yes, but not so bad that it was vulgar or crude in my opinion.

I'm always reminded of 1 Corinthians 15:33 when I observe how many Christian celebrities have changed after associating with unbelieving stars for so long. That's what happens when one consistently hangs out with "evil companions".
