Thread: Minnesotan honored to wear a hijab during Miss Minnesota USA pageant

Do we dare say that if it had been any other American girl, refusing to wear the pageant "uniforms" of gowns and bathing suits, they wouldn't be allowed to compete?

A Somali-American woman is competing in the Miss Minnesota USA contest.

19-year-old Halima Aden of St. Cloud will be wearing a hijab and a full-body outfit called a burkini during the swimsuit competition. She also modified her evening gowns.

Aden says she'd been bullied for wearing her hijab and hopes the pageant will help end some of the misconceptions about her religious and cultural beliefs.

"I've been so overwhelmed by the positive support I've been getting from community members, from girls all over the country. Some girls from Indonesia messaged me saying that they were really proud of me, and what I was doing was inspirational to them. That made it all worth it," Aden said.

The winner of the competition moves on to the Miss Universe pageant formerly owned by President-Elect Donald Trump.

Islam is sort of religion tamed and made toothless and powerless. Not that its adherants aren't capable of doing harm to others but to most modern Westerners, converting to that religion is completely out of the question. It's just powerless works religion and it belongs to a very different culture. It's easy for people to be friendly towards Islam when it is non-confrontational and introspect. A problem with the growth of moderate Islamic populations in the Western world is that people who aren't well acquainted with Christianity start confusing the two religions and even when they are able to keep the technicalities apart, they start believing that there really isn't much difference, that the religions are just two facets of the same powerlessness and works-orientedness. A demonstration of the full gospel is very much needed in the face of "the new kid on the block" and not just towards its own adherants.

I wonder who will win?

Some other girl probably. Unless they've gone crazy.

In Britain they've managed to make the hijab a part of their police uniform. It may all seem like standing up for one's rights but it quickly turns into a matter of getting one's way and nothing more than that. People demanding to wear burkhas everywhere until there is no way of identifying their faces is one version of it.
