    First Metro Detroit Chick-fil-A Opens

Troy — You can't beat free chicken. Just ask Jeffrey Cairns, 22, of Shelby Township, who set up a campsite at 10 a.m. Wednesday with his friends on the top floor of the parking garage at the Somerset Collection in Troy.

They were in line for the Thursday morning opening of Chick-fil-A's first mall restaurant location in Michigan. Chick-fil-A is opening at Somerset's food court at 10 a.m. Thursday, but the first 100 people to line up ahead of the grand opening will get 52 free No. 1 meals. The No. 1 is an original Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, a side of fries and a drink.

The first 100 were on site by 8:30 a.m. Thursday, company spokeswoman Cindi Pickett said.

"Four (restaurant mascot) cows are going to lead them in a conga line with crew members banging on pots and pans," Pickett said about the grand opening plan...

The original Chick Fil A Dwarf house in Hapeville GA where it all started is about 9 miles from my house. Haven't eaten there in years though.

When we first moved to where my parents live now when I was 15, that was the only Chick Fil A. But there was a little restaurant right around the corner from our house called Jessie's Drive In Grocery and the owner was a friend of Truett Cathy (founder of Chick Fil A). So he sold Chick Fil A sandwiches there. I used to get them there all the time.

Not true at all. Until recently the closest one to us was ten hours away by car. Now there's one that's two hours away. Still way too far.

We don't eat there anymore. The potato things are often greasy. Also many of the menu choices are a bit pricey for us.i

uh.... the potato things? are called waffle fries..... the grease? helps the fries slide down the palate... Taken with dipping mayo are quite good.... the prices? catch them on dress up like a cow day.... free food and while you may feel like a udder fool the food is worth it....
