Trump: Government should compel companies to provide 6 weeks of paid maternity leave

Donald Trump on Tuesday will formally propose that the federal government guarantee up to six weeks of paid leave to new mothers, campaign officials told reporters.

Although the plan is characteristically short on detail and appears to lack adequate funding, it represents a sharp break with the Republican establishment, which has traditionally dismissed such proposals as job killers that lead to too much government involvement in Americans' lives.

This is a sign (in my opinion, a good sign), that Mr. Trump has a more expansive view of
the proper role of government in regulating corporations. If elected, I hope he can get it
    through Congress.

We have that here only a lot worse. I don't like it at all. Businesses and Govts should not (imo) pay the cost of people's personal decisions.

If one needs time off (and one SHOULD take time off when one has a baby) then one should budget and save for that expense.

Trouble is people spend to the max then say they can't afford it.

There's a thing called "personal responsibility".

P.S. otoh I have benefited well from forced payments/savings through superannuation (sorta like 401's in USA speak)

Agreed that that's most likely the motivation.

This announcement, coupled with Mr. Trump's previously-announced support for increasing
the minimum wage to $10.00 per hour (which I also support), points to the possibility that
Mr. Trump, if elected, will govern more like a Democrat than a traditional Republican in
matters concerning the role of the government in the economy.

Of course, a big question is whether he really means what he says.

Raising the minimum wage will only kill my buying power.

    Well, I really hope not.

Hopefully, your wages would rise more than the prices you pay (given that labor costs are a subset of a firm's total costs).

You can avoid major, expensive repair costs with an extended service plan for your Scion. Many vehicle repairs can cost thousands of dollars in unexpected expense, now may be the time to consider an extended service plan for your vehicle.
