Superstar Mega-church Son of A Preacher Man Andy Stanley: Scripture Can't Be Defended

    http://pulpitandpen.org/2016/08/30/s...t-be-defended/

... "It is next to impossible to defend the entire Bible." Andy Stanley

... Stanley proceeded to give a brief, theologically noxious outline for how he'd reprint the Bible so that unbelievers would find it more palatable. ("I might republish all the Bibles and call the first half 'God's covenant with ancient Israel' and the second half 'God's covenant with the world' because the way we talk about the Scripture is confusing for unchurched people.")

... Stanley's ambition is nothing less than to destroy the credibility of Scripture. But in so destroying Scripture, Stanley aims to nevertheless justify the truth of Christianity as a faith that doesn't need God's Word as the singular guide for faith and practice that 2,000 years of orthodoxy has proclaimed. For him, there is no providential inspiration, protection, and delivery of God's self-revelation to man. The Bible has errors but we can still have faith in Jesus. (Of course you can, Andy. It's just a different Jesus from a different gospel that will found to be faulty that first moment one adhering to it takes an after death breath.)

The article is summed up with this quote: "Whom God intends to destroy, He gives them leave to play with Scripture." Martin Luther

    So, is he stepping down?

Is the board gonna give him the left foot of fellowship?

They should... cause we don't need to "defend" what God says, just declare it in faith and let the Lord defend His Word.

He's a Big, really Big BIG Boy... so He's well able to defend His Word.

Yep, it's all the devil's fault... the devil MADE him be ignorant of God's Word.

Sounds like this guy is not qualified to be in the ministry. If he teaches OSAS, he's certainly not qualified!

Did anybody actually read the article? I read most of it but my eyes started glazing over the longer it got.

I don't really think it was Andy's intention at all to say what the person is saying he is saying. I think it's an overreaction to what he is trying to say. And I agree somewhat in some things with where he seems to be coming from, at least from what I could comprehend from the extra long article.

We all know that absolute literalism is out of the question and that the Bible we have cannot be said to be inerrant, for the simple reason that it is based on several sources that differ from each other. Beyond that, you should elaborate.

I read it fuego and Stanley is really reaching out there to get his version of the gospel across. To base your theology on the resurrection and not the inerrant word that speaks of and illuminates the resurrection leaves Stanley lacking in his theology. This surprises me considering who his dad is. The one thing he neglects to address is the influence of the the Holy Spirit and His role in organizing and completing the canon as we know it today. Personally I think he is grasping at spiritual straws....
